We swopped Grumpy's top for a smaller size, no problem. He spotted a jumper at half price, so tried on the xl - waaay too small, but the xxl was fine Which is the opposite of the other top

I saw a pair of trousers and as I normally take the large, took them and a medium into the changing room, as the large looked rather rather. And they were, fell off me. So bought the medium

And a fab mustard yellow top. The medium was too small and the large is just a little too large.

And we get 10% discount next week - so might just have to go back

I gave up looking at size labels years ago...

I have stuff from different places in M, L and XL and they all fit. How does that work?

And don't get me started on trousers made in the Orient. Don't their men have backsides?! The only way to get a comfortable fit in the seating area was to buy waist sizes way too large.

Absolutely!! It's a bugbear of mine - who can be bothered to strip off, try on loads of things and then get dressed again, in as many shops as necessary to find the item you want??? But it has to be done, for the reasons Kaz outlined....

I need a couple of pairs of plain black trousers for work. I like a slim fit leg (as opposed to bootcut or wide leg) and I want the same as I have now, the fabric is lovely, it has a little bit of stretch in it, the trousers fit my waist exactly while fitting my out-of-proportion hips at the same time....M&S is where I got them but that style isn't made now and nothing that I have tried comes close to fitting - the waist/hip ratio is all wrong for me

I find even shoes are different here. . So now I say I'm a euro 39 and let them work it out. I seem to get the right size first time then. (We don't use euro sizing here either so they always look oddly at me)

It isn't just the sizing either - it is leg length as well. I have three pairs of M&S jeans all the same style and colour and size, but all the leg lengths are different!

Male trousers are usually 29, 31 and 33 lonhg, but 29, 31 and 33 whats? They seem to be random measures of nothing in particular. The same thing applies to shirt collars.

Thank goodness I always wear short sleeves, there is not much to wrong with them.

They refer to inside leg measurements, in inches WM And the same for collar sizes...makes me smile really, all things metric and these stay traditionally 'old'

At least you get a choice of leg length. We get "one size fits no-one"
