Touch Pad

On my Lenovo laptop (on Windows 7) I always use a mouse, as I don't like the touch pad.
Some time ago I found out how to disable the touchpad, but now Mrs A, who doesn't like
my mouse, wants to use it, and I can't for the life of me remember how to re-activate it.
Can anyone help?

John try the combination of the Function key Fn (front row 2nd left) with one of F5, F6, F7 or F8.

It depends on the model. Sometimes its Fn + an F key, say F5 to turn Off and Fn + a different F key, say F7 to turn On. Other times it is a toggle; Fn + an F key for Off and the same combination for On.

You should get an on-screen indicator.

I've done a bit more searching now, and found a list of F-key functions.
This does say that the Fn + F6 keys combination will both disable and
reinstate the touchpad, but that is just not happening. It looks like Mrs A
will just have to get used to my little mouse, bless him.

Have you tried Control Panel>>>Mouse and seeing if there is a TouchPad tab in the pop-up window?

I can't see anything appropriate in the Control Panel, Frank.

I've had this message appear: "Desktop Windows Manager is disabled - try System Restore".

Restoring to the last date option hasn't done the trick, so I'll try an earlier date - later today.

On my Lenovo Netbook the FN key is set to active and I have to press the FN key to get to the function keys. Otherwise I get the Lenovo special FN keys by default. Try just pressing F6 and see what happens. That is how mine works.

Suff-- I've tried just pressing F6 on its own, but that doesn't work.

After trying System Restore I get the message: "System Restore did not complete satisfactorily - Files and settings were not changed. An unspecified error occurred during System Restore (OXC000022)".

This message has come up twice. I'm stuck now.

It sounds like some of your drivers are not functioning properly.

Aha, the (in)famous Windows 7 driver updater, maybe.

If UltraNav does not have a tab in Control Panel>>>Mouse>>>New window... along with Buttons; Pointers; Pointer Options; Wheel and Hardware then maybe the driver is corrupt.

Try http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds019164 for the Windows 7 driver (32 or 64 bit) Download the driver, right click on it and from the menu choose Run as Administrator. Reboot when done.

Thanks, Frank. I've looked at the link you've given me but, frankly, (not a pun !) it scares me,
so I think I'll give it a miss. I don't want to get into deeper water. I'm afraid I find this technology
too much for my old brainbox, and I'm running out of swear words. Mrs A will just have to
get mouse-trained.
