BT Infinity vs Sky - anyone have any opinion?

Postby meriad » 22 Sep 2015, 15:58

I'm with sky at the moment and have been since I moved in 2007. Not that it's a necessity but my TV is a HD one but I can't watch any HD channels with my current sky box and for me to get one of those I need to upgrade my current subscription and pay quite a bit more.

So having time on my hands, I was looking at other options and it seems that with BT Infinity and I could probably get a similar set up to what I have now, but including the HD channels for either the same amount of money or slightly less - dependent on the broadband speed I choose (78 or 38Mb speed)

I'm seriously thinking of changing and moving over to BT but was wondering if anyone else is with them and what you think

Unfortunately Virgin isn't an option as they're not in our area

Can't really comment on BT Ria, we've had the sky broadband, phone and tv package with HD (opted out of moves and sport) for years and tbh wouldn't change. Mainly because no other provider gives you Sky Atlantic and we watch quite a few programmes on that channel, Game of Thrones is a prime example. Also we've been very lucky and have always had excellent service from them. People here seem to have a lot of problems currently with BT, could just be this area though, I don't really know.

Ria, there is a thread by Aggers titled B.T. with a few links for comparisons.

I am with TalkTalk so not much use except to say how lucky you are that Virgin is not in your area. I could never promote that company after the problems I had.

Saundra you need t ring their cancellation line and tell them you can't afford it and want to cancel - they'll greatly reduce your bills in order to keep your custom and the call is free. We have Sky but just for telly alone (I am with TalkTalk for my broadband and landline) - we don't get the movies or sport but I pay about £30 a month now (with HD), down from about £45 before my cancellation call :) Not had BT so cannot compare.

Meriad what sort of thing is it you'd want to watch?
Before we got Sky we bought an amazon fire tv box (they do a stick now as well) which gives you a lot.
I bought amazon prime for a year - will decide when the 12 months are up - which includes loads of free films etc as well, but even without it's good value, we use it an awful lot.

But I was also going to say have you tried phoning Sky, they're not keen on you leaving, especially if you're switching to Bt.
And if you go online to start it, someone will probably pop up in a chatbox to offer you a better deal ;)

Thanks all

Di, the two channels I do watch fairly regularly and would like to keep are Watch and Good Food, neither of them seem to be available on any Freeview / Amazon Fire etc package; only available on one of the subscription packages (and not the basic ones either).

But after all this; I've been playing around a bit more and by the time I do add on my calling plan (free international calls which I use to call my family) it doesn't look as though I'll save all that much if I change to BT. I'm going to compare a bit more and then see what gives - but it does sound as though it's not worth the hassle of changing over

I forgot to mention the free international calls Ria, it's a real must for us as I like a regular chat with my sister in Oz.
