I had a wee job at the weekends too - helping out at an old folk's home and reading to them.

They used to enjoy that as I put loads of 'drama' into my stories...no surprise there! ;)

Every summer for years I'd go with a truck load of other local kids and pick raspberries and strawberries.

We were paid pennies per punnet but it was a great laugh.

Congratulations all-round.

S sounds to have a wise head on her young shoulders; and fingers crossed for L next spring/summer.

My two both had early-teens jobs. They are a great prep for the real world with a bit of money into the bargain. They also take a bit of strain off the Bank of Mum and Dad.

Job hunting

Postby debih » 21 Sep 2015, 17:51

She's had two more phone calls tonight! That's 6 now.

She's turned one down already as they wanted her on a Sunday (she sees the boyfriend on a Sunday as he works Saturday so she said she didn't want to do Sunday's. I had told her she couldn't afford to be picky but quite obviously she can!).

She's seeing the other place, a small family run restaurant in the next village that has been going for donkeys years, on Wednesday.

She hasn't rung the Italian restaurant back as I was speaking to someone today who's daughter used to work there and she said he was a nightmare to work for. She rang the other two but needs to ring back tomorrow when the people she needs to speak to are there.

She said she's not that fussed about the cafe job and that she'd rather be in a hotel or restaurant where's there more scope for evening work (and tips) but at the moment she's hanging on to that job until she's heard from the others.
