We get our telephone service and our Broadband from B.T.

Some time ago Mrs A, who manages all our financial affairs, took up an offer from B.T. whereby, by paying the line rental in advance, we got a reduced rate. (We pay by direct debit). So far, so good.

A week or so ago, however, I received an Email from B.T. saying that this arrangement was nearing its end, and the service would then be ended and our service would then be cut off. This didn't make sense to me, so I just ignored it. Now I have received another message saying we are about to be cut off. How on earth can a company treat its customers like that?.

I am seriously thinking of changing our Broadband provider. Can anyone recommend a good one?

EDIT: Mrs A telephoned BT this morning. It transpires that she, my financial adviser, had negotiated a new combined contract for telephone and broadband 12 months ago, and this was about to expire, hence the Emails. She had then renewed the Line Rental contract in January, under the impression that this would include the Broadband but apparently it didn't. This has now been put right, so the problem is resolved.

I don't use broadband in the UK so I've not had any personal experiences with it.

However there are surveys.

And complaints analysis

Which

And of course you already knew this

Thanks, Suff for those interesting surveys.

I had already looked into the John Lewis website, as they were top of the 'Which' list for service,
but their prices were considerably higher than at B.T. So it is a case of you get what you pay for.

When I've got over my present tantrum, I guess I'll probably stick with B.T.

I am not a big fan of national surveys as they are too broad except when comparing things like customer services, billing etc.

For speed, reliability, setup and so on I am more interested in what is actually happening locally. I am with TalkTalk, which nationally scores low on speed, but where I am it is much faster than some of the others. It never falls over and is a lot cheaper.

If I ever needed to change would ask neighbours and locals for their opinions, as well as doing some online research.

That's what I did Wm, and why we moved to TalkTalk for a couple of years.
The reason I first started looking at Sky was because of a marked increase in their vans appearing round here and sure enough, it's better - but I got it because of the half price total deal for that plus the Tv and sports.
If it hadn't been such a good deal I'd have been happy to stay with TalkTalk, when I first switched I got it (phone and broadband) for peanuts for a year, then haggled like mad ;)

Thanks, my friends.

Discussing this question with local friends is a darned good idea.
I think I might do just that.
