Speeding

I got a letter from the local police on Wednesday, they said I'd been doing 35mph in a 30mph limit on a particular day.

It was my car but T was driving it - he filled in the back and took it to the cop shop, but then yesterday HE received the same letter again, only this time addressed to him.

I don't know what to do now? Any thoughts?

Gal, I would not let it be. I suggest that you and T attend the cop shop with both letters and make sure your version is officially binned.

When my bike was written off all the paperwork was with the insurers/solicitors. A few weeks after it would have needed tax and insurance I got a letter from DVLA telling me I could be fined if I did not get tax and insurance or filled in a SORN. I got in touch by phone and explained and was told it had been sorted - no need to do anything. I received a letter informing me that he bike had been scrapped.

Next thing I get a fine for £1,000 to be paid in 28 days or I would be taken to court. I got in touch again and was asked to send a copy of the confirmation letter to DVLA - who had issued it - in order for the fine to be dropped.

Things eventually got sorted out, but official inefficiency is legendary and I would not take 'word of mouth' promises that things had been done satisfactorily.

It needs sorting to avoid an "invitation" to an expensive driving course or avoid points on your licence and increased insurance premiums because of them.

For the second time this year Don's been issued with a speeding fine driving a white van in Madrid!

Phone calls, paper work and shouty time on the phone for him then!

I think I would want confirmation that the original one has been cancelled. Not quite the same but on Friday I spent a considerable amount of time on the phone to the electricity company telling them that the meter for which they keep sending me bills was in fact removed in January by their employee, so I get what Frank is saying about incompetence

I think that's the plan WM I will let you know how it goes...it's very confusing as the back of the notice has options which, in the first place, didnt apply as the letter was addressed to me, and I wasn't the driver....this is the same notice (I think) but addressed to Tom so he can fill in his driver number etc in the appropriate boxes, but then there's a thing to say "If you (I'm assuming the addressee?) are not the registered owner of the above vehicle, please say when it was bought/sold and by whom".....which doesn't apply to this situation either It's confusing....
