Guess what we found at the bottom of our garden!

Postby Cal » 04 Sep 2015, 18:31

My brother had come over to cut the grass at the back of our house and when he lifted some dead pampas grass Mike noticed all cuddled up together, a Mother cat and 3 kittens! I have never moved so quickly when he told me, you know I can't walk very well or far, but I got down the garden at a rate of knots! I didn't approach where they were, well I would have never have managed it anyway but I did see the grey kitten walk a few steps on wobbly legs. I was concerned about the Mother cat as she was obviously feeding 3 kittens so Mike put some Tuna cat food on the rockery and some water. When M looked a bit later she had eaten all the food.

I did ring the cats protection, plus the RSPCA but they don't do anything about potentially stray kittens, and their advice was leave them where they are. Actually I have a feeling the Mother may live near, but if the household is noisy with children or dogs etc it's understandable that she would find somewhere quiet and safe to give birth.
Sadly we can't adopt one of the kits because of my health, but we are loving being temporary foster Grandparents! We love cats. :D

Oh bless, I'm sure mummy cat really appreciated the food and drink :)

Shame you can't take one, but totally understandable. I have developed a severe allergy to cats as an adult (strange, as we always had cats when I was a child) but they give me bad asthma and hives :?

Oh Cal, what a happy/sad tale.

If they are not 'adopted' they will become feral, with all that entails for them and the neighbourhood.

I am a big softy at times and would feed them, but not take them in. They would not be pets, but more like friends welcome in the garden.

I would dearly love to take them in, but I can't look after myself now so I can't look after a cat. Also I can't have a pet now because my immune system is severely compromised. Hopefully she will take the babies home to her own home when they get a bit bigger. In the meantime we will put cat food out for the Mother.

What a lovely find! :D

I hope they stay safe and well.

When I was young Kaz I was very allergic to cats..sneezing and streaming eyes.

It seemed to lessen the longer I lived in Spain and now its completely gone.

I can sit happily with my friend's cat on my lap and nothing happens. :D :D

It is odd, Ally, but you can 'grow out of' allergies - my hay fever has almost gone, and the asthma (which was the allergic type) is so much better as to be almost gone - just not with cats :?

The Mum and kittens have vanished, sometime in the night we believe :? I suppose it's just as well, M was getting very attached. But it's a shame.
