What a kerfuffle!

Postby Workingman » 22 Aug 2015, 16:55

I parked opposite a car where mum is beginning to lose it slightly.

Inside the car is a baby in a carry seat, a little lad of about two who is getting a bit teary, a nice handbag on the driver's seat along with a mobile phone..... and a bunch of keys.  She has been locked out and there appears to be no way to get in, and it is starting to rain.

We try to get the lad to pull the door handles, but the doors do not open. He cannot get the windows down to pass the keys out because they need the ignition to be on to work. A woman parked nearby offers to phone the hubby to bring spare keys, but he is on his way home from the footy and is two bus rides away.

Eventually 101 is rung and the operators pass the problem on the the Fire Brigade.....

As I finish shopping they are just opening the car to free the captives. "All in a day's work" I hear one of them say....

The baby and the little lad were two people btw.

The woman with the phone stayed with mum and let her sit in her car till the FB arrived, Now that was kind as mum was getting really stressed.

Apparently mum put baby in the carry seat, put her stuff on the driver's seat and then started to load the boot. As she went to park the trolley the little lad jumped in the car and shut the door. The rest, as they say, is history.

Yes I assumed it was the little boy who'd managed to lock her out - boys!! :D
Can imagine she was getting incredibly upset, I would have been if it was just Minnie stuck in the car!
Daft isn't it, how making cars safer has created such problems :?

Gosh, what a worry for the mom; and not sure about where you are, but down here yesterday was a super hot day - you'd have ended up having to break the windows to get the kids out.

And actually probably a good reason to think about having a car where only the front windows are electric and the back ones regular normal wind down with a handle ones.

Glad all worked out OK though

Hi Ria, it is super hot here today. I have all the windows open and it is 25C inside. In a parked car it could well be 30C+ and a window would have had to be smashed.

Getting out of a locked car with electronic central locking might be something car manufacturers need to look at.

could they not get the boy to press the buttons on the remote? eventually one of them would have opened either the doors or the boot?
