So much more of a shock when you realise you've had a very close escape

Very true - we lived in London during the bombings in the 1970s. I worked just off Piccadilly Circus and used to walk to Charing Cross for my train home. One day I got home to hear that a bomb had exploded in a post box which I passed every day, and even put post in sometimes. It had happened while I was on the train Scarey for your friend Ally.
