Somebody I never met has always been so kind

Postby Osc » 29 Jul 2015, 09:57

When we had the post office, we had to have commercial insurance, and many years ago when there were a lot of robberies happening, most insurance companies didn't want to know or looked for outrageously high premiums. So I contacted a broker for help. From the start, Tony was so helpful, got us a (reasonably) affordable premium, spoke personally to me every year at renewal time and kept the premium down. When we were going through the initial trauma with Mr Osc's family which included a dispute about insurance, I had to tell Tony what was happening and he was so incredibly kind and helped us through it. We had to keep the building insured when it was empty and last year he recommended insuring it one more time even if the building work started and we were covered by the builder's insurance.

He phoned this morning as it is coming up to renewal time, oddly enough I had said last night that I would start ringing around today getting quotes. So I told him we wouldn't need to renew, and even though he said home insurers don't like dealing with brokers (which is fine), he still put the figures into his comparison programme and gave me a ballpark figure. I thanked him for all his help and kindness over the years, and he said he was so glad that we had finally got into the building and made it our home as he knew we had a difficult time over a long period. I've never met him although he does know the building, says he drives by it regularly. Isn't it nice to know that there are some good kind people out there (plus he has a gorgeous voice, will miss the annual chat ;) ).

That is lovely of him Osc. But being curious, don't you still need some form of building insurance or does he not do residential insurances?

He says the insurance companies don't want to deal with brokers for home insurance, so I will be dealing direct with the insurance company where I get the best quote, maybe the company with whom I have the car insurance, which gets me a discount on home insurance.

That is nice Osc, personal service makes such a difference :)

On a similar note, most people wouldn't have a good word to say about banks but at a particular time mine was wonderful.
I'd been living at Bb's flat for over a year when I had a phone call from the person I used to see (it was still my bank), asking me how I was doing - no ulterior motive, no bank product to sell, just genuine interest :)

One tends to forget, nowadays, with the increase in crime, and the general deterioration in ethics
that seem so wide-spread now, that there are still plenty of honest, decent people about.

It is heartening to hear of your experience, Osc.
