If you were told that you had no water at home...

what would your first concern be?


My manager received a text message from his housekeeper saying that apparently the builders who are doing works at his house had to cut the water. So I called her and she explained that yes it had been cut so allow the builders to investigate a leak, but that it's now been switched back on but doesn't have as much pressure as it should.

So back to him I go and say "good news; the water is back on but just with less pressure so all is OK and you can use the loo's". To which he just looked at me and replied "I hadn't even thought of that, I was thinking about showering"


Showering probably would have been right at the bottom of my list of priorities

To fill the kettle (for my tea!!) then all my saucepans, for drinking water etc

Then buckets of water for the loo, to flush through when necessary You can do without showers for a day if necessary, a good strip wash from a sink of warm water is generally sufficient

I must admit the first that popped into my mind when I started to read this was...'OMG. No shower!'

I'd do the same Kaz, if you had enough warning... but if you had no warning; ie came home and there wasn't any water

That's exactly what we did when we had the boiler replaced t'other week and they cut the water off. Trouble was, we ran out by the middle of the day!

I bought a 5 gallon plastic container several years ago which has never been used.
I would go to one of our neighbours and ask them to fill it.
A shower would be bottom of the list.
Tea and flushing the toilet would be at the top

Pack my trunks and go to the local pool for a swim - after a shower, before, and another at the end.

Then off to ASDA for bottles of water and alternative drinks. ASDA does 2lt bottles of still water for 17p, so those are what I would buy - perfect for a sink wash and flushing the toilet.

Back home to order in a takeaway and relax.

I'd have to pay more than 17p a bottle but drinks of any kind would be my first thought
My 2 bottles of tap water in the fridge wouldn't last me long so yes, I'd be straight out for bottles too.

Then I'd hope it would be back on for the morning so I could have a shower, wash up, etc...it is alarming just how much water you need for a few simple things.
When we've had kitchens done there have always been occasions with the water off and it's every 5 minutes you think 'oh no!'

I had this the other morning, a water main in our street burst, got the text from hubby and watercare were already in the street, so I sprinted downstairs, filled the jug, filled drinking bottles, filled the sink with hot water (so I could do the dishes later), turned the washing machine on (you never know your luck) filled a bucket for flushing the toilet ( I can do 5 flushes to a bucket, don't ask how I know ) filled the mop bucket with hot water do I could wash the floors later then sprinted upstairs for a record breaking shower. All that find in 10 mins. Then I went back downstairs to drink my coffee and watercare guy saw me and came over and said "we have to turn the water off" "I know I replied" to which I got a confused look (I was still in my dressing gown) I said "don't worry, I've got the dishwasher and washing machine on, but they will start again when the water comes back on, hugs boiled, water is stored, I'm ready when you are" . "How about I wait till 9am when most people have left for work"

That was an hour away, I needn't have rushed
