Walk me round your house!!!

Completely pointless post but humour me!!!

No photos - just imagination to be used.

We are a Victorian mid terraced villa.

You come in the front door to a narrow (very traditional) hallway with stairs directly ahead. To your right is the stripped oak door to the lounge, to your left the doorway to the dining room (currently door-less as we are sourcing one to fit and that matches). Into the dining room, turning left walk through towards the end of the room, passing the stripped oak door to the pantry on your left. Up one step and through the doorway (no door - we got rid of that years ago) into the kitchen, with the back door on your right just inside the room.

Back through the dining room and turn immediately right and up the stairs.

At the top of the stairs is another stripped oak door which takes you through to the bathroom but as you go through it you go into a small corridor that has the bi-folding door to the laundry room on your right, before opening up to the bathroom.

Turn right at the top of the stairs and you pass a stripped oak door on your left with L's lair behind it and along a long corridor to another stripped oak door at the end with S's den. Just before you get to S's door the corridor widens out and you turn right and then immediate right again to another oak door (not stripped this time - still not got round to it) with stairs directly behind it that go up to our attic bedroom.

I am in an upstairs flat so as I open the front door I am immediately confronted by a flight of steps leading to the hallway fire door which opens to the left.

On entering the hall there are six doors. Going to the left they are bedroom, office, lounge, dining room, bathroom/toilet and kitchen. Follow me.

This is the bedroom with double bed, dressing table, wardrobe and bedside cabinets.

Next is my office with my desk, computers, printer, filing cabinets and bookshelf. It is directly connected to the lounge through sliding doors and heavy curtains.

The lounge is, well, a lounge. It has the three piece suite, TV, stereo and coffee table and is usually a mess.

The dining room has a display cabinet and a table and four dining chairs. It is almost square and does not get used much. I eat on the hoof quite a lot, or at the computer.

The bathroom and toilet are all in one. I have a power shower and a flushing toilet. Let's move on...

The kitchen is galley style. So it is sink. worktop, cooker and more worktop on one side. Then it is fridge-freezer, worktop and cupboard on the other side. The upper half is all cupboards.

That's it. If you like woodchip and magnolia this place is a dream.

A typical modern, bog-standard, over-priced Bovis town house, (15yo), built like a box.

Front door leads to a very small hallway with the landline phone on a table, downstairs study off on the left (bookcase, writing desk, outdoor clothing pegs and shoes), galley kitchen off to the right (all the usual fitted units in mock oak cabinets).

Straight ahead from the hallway is (a) the living room (three piece suite, bookcases, coffee table, TV) and (b) next to it, the stairs up.

Back of the house downstairs, beyond the kitchen, is a small utility room (washing machine, slimline tumble drier) with a sink, a separate loo off it, backdoor to the garden, and behind it a dining room (dining table, dresser, hot trolley). From the hallway, you can walk in a circle: living room > dining room > utility > kichen > back to the hall.

Upstairs, four bedrooms (2 en-suite), one of which is the pooter / model railway room where I'm currently at, and a bathroom/loo. Plain walls painted magnolia throughout ....

Outside at the front, a double garage for the wheelie bins, storage freezer, and my Zombie Apocalypse be-prepared-for-the-collapse-of-civilisation mountain of canned tomatoes, canned beans and canned soups.

Back garden - small patio, loadsa pots with geraniums and pinks and lobelia, shrubs down one side, a very weedy grass lawn, and an impenetrable Amazonian jungle at the back of it (small conifer, holly, ivy, mahonia, hebe and a bleddy huge rampant tayberry that's producing fruits faster than either the blackbirds or we can eat at the moment). The blackbirds, thrushes and resident robin love the jungle, and (judging by the poo on the patio ), we may have a resident hedgehog in there as well .... oh, yes and a garden shed with guttering, downpipe, and a water butt about the size of an Appalachian moonshine still ....

Okeydoke!

Through our modern front door, you step into a small hallway with wood laminate floor, in front of you is the start of a curved stairway, next to that, through a white wooden door is the downstairs cloak. To your right is a door to the living room which runs from front to back of the house, window to the front, patio doors to the back, it houses two leather sofas, a leather footstool, coffee tables, lamps, a giant green glass floor vase with lights on twigs, a bookcase and a large telly.

Back into the hallway, to your left is a door into the kitchen diner, which also runs double aspect, window to the front and to the back. The dining part is first and faces front, and has a four seater oak dining table and chairs (it extends to seat six, we keep the two spare chairs in the garage),the kitchen part has an island thingy, beech units with a black worktop, the usual built in appliances (fridge freezer, dishwasher, hob and wall oven, a window to the back over the double sink, but also a door to the utility which has more built in cupboards, another sink, a rechargeable Dyson on the wall, a washer and a tumble dryer, and then out through the back door into the garden. That has a small patio with pots and tubs of flowers and herbs, a medium sized patch of lawn, decking in the far corner with a table and chairs, a barbecue and a chiminea, There is a shed, and a gate which leads to the shared drive and our single garage.

If you then retrace to the hallway, up the stairs I mentioned which are shallow and curve around in the stairwell, you come to a large landing, facing you is a window which overlooks the field to the front of the house. Under that window is a sideboard type cupboard, with my mum's wooden antelope ornaments on. To your left is the door to our bedroom, this is the same size as the living room which is directly underneath, like the living room it is double aspect and runs from front to back of the house, the bed is on the side wall between the two built in wardrobes, a set of two chests of drawers face it and there is a wooden blanket box which we use as the laundry hamper under the back window, and as you walk through towards the back, to the left again is a door to a small en suite that houses a sink, loo and walk in shower.

Back again onto the landing, facing the window, over to the right there are three more doors, one is to an airing cupboard that holds a tank, next to that is the door to the main bathroom, which has the usual stuff and a shower over the bath, the window faces front, Back out on the landing, to the far right is another door, to the double bedroom that faces over the back garden - that is Mick's study which houses a sofa bed, a large desk with various computers and stuff on it, a leather swivel chair, a built in single wardrobe, a telly on the wall and usually several small hairy dogs!!

Out onto the landing again and up another flight of curved stairs is another smaller landing, with a velux window. To the right is B's room - that has a window to the front of the house and a small velux in the sloping roof. She has a chest of drawers, a double wardrobe, a double bed, bedside cabinet and a lot of clutter!! Harry's room is to the left, from the landing, a mirror image of B's - only much tidier. It has a single bed, bedside cabinet, small double wardrobe, a small telly and various games consoles. a fold over foam 'cube' chair, an exercise bike, and is decorated in blue with Chelsea posters, clock, duvet cover and pillow set etc. All Chelsea

Welcome to Chez Osc! This was originally a shop downstairs, with another door further down with a hallway leading to stairs and the upstairs residential part. Now all is residential, and we enter through what was the original shop double doors, into a large living room with a wood floor. To the left is a door leading to the spare room (more usually referred to as Michael's room). This has a single bed with another pullout bed underneath, I think it is called a truckle bed. There is also Kellie's cot and a sliding door mirror wardrobe which we brought from our old house.

Out of that room, next left brings you into a tiny entry way with a door ahead of you to the utilty room and a sliding door on the right to a toilet/shower room with wash hand basin and bidet. The utility has a window out into the living space as otherwise there would be no natural light. We have a good airing cupboard, second fridge and freezer and the washing machine. There is another door on the right in the utility leading to our bin store, where we also have the heating boiler and the dryer.

Out again and turn left into the living space which has two chairs, telly etc. and Mr Osc's musical instruments - electric piano, accordion, electric guitar and steel guitar. This part of the room was previously the old hallway, now all knocked together, with the old front door blocked up and now just a window.

So now left up the stairs which follow the wall and turn left half way up. At the top you are in our open plan living/kitchen/dining room. Facing you at the top of the stairs is the stairs to the terrace, with a graduated bookshelf underneath. Turn left and walk forward, past the dining table and chairs on your left, followed by two chairs and a couch. The ceiling in this part of the room is very high with an original wooden beam. On your right is the door to our bedroom, and then the kitchen. Ahead are two windows out on to the street and over to the left is a large window looking down the street towards the harbour. Wooden floor here too, carpet on the stairs and the bedrooms though, with etched glass doors and a glass balustrade on the stairs.

Through the bedroom door there is a little corridor with a sliding door on the right into our ensuite bathroom (actually bigger than the bathroom downstairs) then the bedroom itself with mirror sliding wardrobe. Back out of the bedroom door, turn left to go up the steps to our terrace, opening the hatch using the remote control. The steps are a bit steeper than regular stairs and it is easier to come down backwards. It is our only outside space and we love it. In fact we love the whole place!

Mine is a 90s built detached... although my garage and next doors are joined. So come in the front door, (joined on garage to the right of this) narrow (door-width) hall with two doors to your left and the stairs ahead....first door is the downstairs loo, second is the living room. It's a long L shape as the dining room is at one end through an archway, next to the archway is the door to the kitchen and the back door from there leads on to the decking and back door to the garage. Through the dining room into the double French doors into the conservatory, added on to the house in about 2000, it's the entire width of the house so it's pretty big, I love sitting in there, especially since getting a large black leather sofa and chair .... it's west facing so gets a lot of sunshine Double opening doors at the side of the conservatory on to the decking there and then a couple of steps down into the garden proper, where there is a lawn, a garden bench and two beds with shrubs and flowers.

Back inside to the hallway and upstairs...at the top of the landing there is the smallest bedroom (the one Lewis sleeps in when he stays, so we call it his room), then next to that on the corner as you come along the landing is our bedroom, the 'master', it contains the en suite (walk in shower, the loo and basin are built in to a sort of vanity unit but it looks like part of the room).. and has sliding mirror wardrobes, further along is Jen's room and then at the end of the landing is the main bathroom (no shower in there since the leak a few years ago but tbh we don't miss it) ...and a storage cupboard opposite Jen's door. People often say to me that our upstairs is back to front as the bathroom and Jen's room are both at the front of the house whereas our room is at the back.

Views at the front of the house look across an area of green with bushes and shrubs so we are not directly overlooked, and the back is slightly offset to the neighbours behind us so again not directly overlooked and I am at the end of a cul-de-sac so the main road through the estate is on our left as we look out the back. It's a dead end though so vehicles pass for access only

Our front overlooks a field too Gal, it's nice to see green through the windows, especially as we are only a mile or two from a city centre

Oh interesting one Debih!

I live in a downstairs maissonette; you come in through the front door into a very small hallway. immediately to your left is a small store cupboard that's under the steps leading to the flat upstairs. Then ahead of you there are two doors, the left one leading to the lounge and the right one that leads into an L shaped hallway. Off the hallway as you come along it are three doors, two directly opposite each other and one at the end. The two opposite - the left one leads to the bathroom which unfortunately is an inside bathroom, ie no windows, and the right doorway leads to the kitchen / dining area. The doorway at the end leads into the small bedroom which I use.

The lounge has french doors leading to the front garden and the dining room has a large sliding door leading to the back garden.

The flat was sold as a 2 bed, with the lounge meant to me the main bedroom and the room I use meant to be the 2nd bedroom but I figured that living on my own I didn't need a big bedroom and was happier with a separate dining area vs having to eat in the lounge.

it's a very odd layout really and not sure I'd have done it this way but it's quirky and most people who visit think it's fun.

My colour schemes are quite neutral, brown leather sofa in the lounge and a red stripey wing chair to give it some colour which sort of matches the red in the persian rug I bought years back from Turkey. The dining room is oak table and chairs and dresser and the bedroom is white and pine. There's lots I'd like to change but sadly can't until I win the lottery

It's a terrace, mock-Georgian, built in 1978.
In the front door and into the hallway; immediately left is a tiny tall cupboard which houses the gas and electricity meters. In front of you are the stairs, beside them is the hall. To the right, double doors into the lounge end of the lounge/dining room, divided by an arch. It was built like that, was never two rooms.
Through those double doors, on the right a big bay window, you're in the lounge end, to the left the arch through to the dining end.
Under the bay, big comfy brown sofa. On your left, past the double doors, second big comfy brown sofa

At the dining end, French door into the garden. Immediately through the arch on the left is the door to the kitchen.
In the kitchen on your right is a door to the back garden; Bb's master stroke when we were planning it was to have the door installed the other way around, so it opens outwards and so doesn't take up kitchen space when it's open

On your left as you go into the kitchen is a door back into the hall. Through that, on your right is the cloakroom, under the stairs.
Back to the front door, swivel right and up the stairs.
At the top, in front of you is a bookcase, beside which the door to 'my' room, the smallest bedroom, now my craft and ironing room.
To the right, second bedroom. Same size as ours, but without built-in wardrobes . Window onto the back, the garden, sun first thing.
Right of that, the lovely big airing cupboard

Right of that, door to our bedroom. A nice size, built-in wardrobes all along wall to the left, looks onto the road but it's a tiny cul-de-sac.
Right-angle to that, door to bathroom.
And above landing, hatch to loft

Ps. We do have a garage, but it's at the end of our litle road, in a block
