Your wedding day

Postby Ally » 30 Jan 2013, 17:35

Kaz has just told me the story of her nearly missing her own wedding slot and it got me thinking.

What was your wedding day like? Did things go to plan or were there any disasters?

Don and I married on April 6th 1990 in Jamaica. :D

On the morning of our wedding day we went for a long walk on the beach. :D

We then spent a few hours just chilling at a beach cafe. :D

At 4 o'clock Don looked at me and said..'shall we go and get ready for our wedding?'

At 5 o'clock we stood right by the water's edge with our 2 witnesses and a minister and got married. :D :D

We then went on to have a fantastic night of eating, drinking and dancing.

Absolutely wonderful day. :D :D :D :D :D :D

If I make mistakes typing, sorry, can only see out of one eye

As we were both divirced, and my parent were also and wouldn't be i nthe same country, let alone the same room, we did the deed over 2 dats.

Day one was at Chipping Sodbury registry ogffice, as it was then, with my dad, my step.mother and a couple of mates. Across the road to the pub afterwards  and then we went to the Huntingford Mill, near Charfield, home of the 32oz t-bone steak. As it was a special day, they also gacv us a small iced cake :D

The following day, it was a service in a small church on Frenchay Common, with Grumpy's mum, dad, sister and all our friends and my mum and grandmother. had a lovely day, with family and close friends coming to our flat first, then onto the church and then onto another pub  type restuarant, for a reception.

Then we went to Wells, in Somerset for a couple of days and then had our honeymoon in Malta.

31 years ago this June

We were married at a Registry Office at the top of a municipal building, accessed from the top level of a multi-story car park.
When we arrived we found the door locked, so I hammered on it and a face appeared, telling us that the place was shut.
We were told that a claimant in the Benefit Office on the ground floor had doused himself with petrol and was threatening to
strike a match unless they paid him. I blew my top and explained that family members had travelled long distances to attend,
and that we didn't mind taking the risk. Reluctantly we were let in and went through the procedure in record time. A case of
marry in haste - but, I'm happy to say, no repenting.

We were married in Stoke on Trent, my husband insisted that I was Christened there before the big day in his Grandfathers first Parish Church, on our wedding day I told him that I had changed my mind, he was not amused... we were both divorced and had lived together for six years and I was happy with that arrangement.. We had little money, and my husbands crew of workers were all ready to come to the local pub where my husband had put on a barrel of beer...My pink hat was the most expensive of my outfit, with matching pink gloves, (that I still have) and a dove grey tailored suit and pink high heeled shoes.
We were married in the Registry Office, could not afford a photographer, however one of the people there who knew my husband kindly offered to take some pictures. We were delighted only to discover a couple of days later that he had forgotten to put a film in the camera'..
Memories, what an amazing life we built for ourselves together we were a team...and I still miss him so very much.
