We are gradually catching up on the ones we recorded while we were away. Rylan has definitely worked in a kitchen at some stage, you could see it in how he handled the work in the restaurant. As an aside, it amazes me that people can afford these very posh expensive lunches!! Only got as far as Arlene being sent home so far, she annoyed me and all the plastic surgery has made her eyes look very strange Looking forward to catching up on some more episodes.

I pegged Kimberly as a potential winner weeks ago, and she did it.

We watched some of the athletics earlier so didn't dare go online till I'd finished catching up
I liked Kimberley, but then I liked all of the finalists.

However.
Rylan obviously never cooks; he worked his socks off, could follow instructions to the letter and eats out a lot so understood presentation and 'wow factor'.
If he wanted, he could be a really good cook - but I don't think he actually wants to be. He may never cook again, which is really not what they want from the finalists.

Sam is good, and proved his point that he started at catering college and would have done well.
He cooks really good food, but no invention, no 'gosh we've never seen that before', it was all competent but not fantastic.

Kimberley learnt a huge amount as the series progressed and managed to translate that into dishes that really proved that.
She deserved it

Only just watched the final, so stayed away from this thread! Yes, Kimberley deserved to win, certainly for her final meal. One of the best series, the final three were all lovely and seemed to have bonded into a caring group. I had never seen Rylan or Sam before, but really liked them both, Rylan was so sweet and funny and hilarious about the fish. However, he did interest me in that some of the tricks he employed would not be known to novice cooks i.e. banging the macaroon tins on the floor to flatten them out.

For the first time ever, I actually want to eat at one of the featured restaurants! I thought Angela Hartnett was fantastic and the next time we get to London we will be eating in Murano. No pretentious nonsense from her, just good food.

Great series this time around, really enjoyed it. Not long till Bakeoff
