I have a gorgeous brand new Peugeot 209 as a courtesy car but I am frightened to drive it.

Lissie really I think this is all perfectly understandable, you must give yourselves time.
It was a horrible, frightening accident and you need time to recover.

It's not long enough yet, you're a tough cookie and won't let it beat you but be kind to yourself for a few more days.
If you need shopping, get a taxi just for now - and let your family know how you're feeling too x

I do agree with Di, you need to be kind to yourself, but like all things as you get older (and please forgive me for saying that) but I have seen it with my stepmum and my friends mum, it is so easy to lose your confidence. Don't go far. Just start the car to start with, and sit in it. Then depending how you feel try to make yourself drive just up and down the road to start with. Somewhere really easy so nothing can frighten you. Wait until the soreness has worn off though, as without the painkillers you may feel a lot better

Lissie, I was going to say what Saundra said about the painkillers. Depending on type and dose they cane make you drowsy.

I also think Shell's idea about just sitting in the car with the engine running and after a while going round the block during a quiet period will help. However, do not go till your chest has recovered, and you need to give that time to heal.
