I saw a horrid accident

Postby Kaz » 17 Jun 2015, 13:40

this lunchtime, in Coffee#1  :(

A toddler, sitting on a hard chair at a table, slipped off sideways and caught the tray loaded with a scalding hot freshly drawn pot of tea  She fell to the floor and the tea went all over her   Everyone stood transfixed, the child was eerily quiet (shock?) and I stuck my oar in and shouted "Quickly, get her in the loo and under the cold tap!" So they rushed off to the loo and I told the (shocked) girls behind the counter to call firstly an ambulance, and secondly their HO to report the accident. The ambos came, luckily the child was just a little bit blistered down one side of her tum, and they didn't take her to hospital. I think the fact she had long sleeves etc (it's a cloudy day here) saved her from worse :?

They thanked me afterwards for jumping in and knowing what to do, but I just went into autopilot really  After they'd gone I felt quite sick and my heart was going like the clappers.

I think she was very lucky, that could have been soooo much worse!

Good for you Kaz, very commendable. I wonder though how long you should keep a very young child under cold water if it is a whole body burn particularly, I think ten minutes might be too long.

I have absolutely no idea, the ambulance was there quickly so I am sure they knew what to do for the best :)

It is a good job for the poor young lass that you did go into autopilot, Kaz, things could have been much worse. Well done you. xx

It is strange how people, of all types, react to emergencies; some freeze while others react without thinking.

I know - it happened so fast and I'm not sure if they could have done much to prevent it really, just one of those things, as I said to the poor grandma afterwards :( The little one was just that bit too old for the highchairs they provide in there :?
