Clearly you have not made it painful enough for him. I can't/won't try and fix stuff for Mrs S even if it is my job. As for telling her how to make clothes or cook or even paper and paint... I'd rather stick my hand in the fire.

I'll just make him wear his rading glasses

So, I now have an all new, all singing, all dancing and very fast computer. He's put in a new hard drive, bigger, quicker than the last one (6years ago) new software for viruses ad other stuff which went in one ear an out t'other.

I still have to download a shed load of stuff, but it's looking good so far :D :D :D

Thanks for all your help, I may be back to ask more questions, cos I is a bit fick on this

Good news. Yes drives have improved greatly since 6 years ago. However also as you put in all the updates it will get slower again. Life, as we know it. I replaced my SSD (flash drive instead of rotating disk), last week due to errors on it. The result is quite a bit faster.

If you don't ask we can't help. We want to help. So please ask... :D :D

I'm a bit fik about knitting, although I can drive a sewing machine pretty well. Horses for courses....

But bless his (very large) cotton socks, he said if I can't do it, he'll pop up on his way home :D :D

Think a slightly smaller Pavarotti - with a balding head - that's Flavio :D :D :D

Keep him fed and watered, Ton. He will be your go-to man for a while yet. Give him a curry and he'll be yours forever.

Not my kind of geek....  I drink, but have never smoked and I'm addicted to caffeine...

If you want you can press the windows key +r and type into the run box

mmc c:\windows\system32\devmgmt.msc

Then press enter.

It would be interesting to see what yellow icons you have for unknown or non working hardware....
