Mmmm they were delicious :D

and a couple of them are a good filler for half the price of F&C. It's why us Yorkies buy them.

Now having lived there for a good seven years I know you ain't joking!! :P

Me neither Debih, it's got worse, so that I've only had them probably 4 or 5 times since we moved here 9 years ago, and the fish and chip shop at the end of the road is really good.
It's a shame as I love the idea of it :)

As for chips though, no, I couldn't eat Macdonalds, they're incredibly dry and salty, nothing like chips at all - but not keen on chip shop chips either :?

I think they put maize powder in fast food French fries, so that's why they taste a bit different, and definitely drier :)

There used to be a programme on one of the minor channels - How it is done. It showed "Fries" being extruded and chopped into random lengths then frozen and flash fried to give that crispy shell 'real chip' look.

Yes, I've seen that. Mick is a fan of those 'How they do so and so.....' programmes on some of the obscure sky channels :ugeek:

I love fish and chips. We always go for haddock. When we have chips at home I make them myself, twice fried and chunky. I'm going to have a go at WM's battered fish next time instead of sending out to the chippy.

I've never heard of those Yorkshire fish cakes, they sound scrumptious.

These days, we sometimes buy just the battered cod for a meal, as the local Gweeks and Cypriots down here have no idea how to properly fry chips.

And the only chips I like are fries - think McDonalds! I'm such a heathen!!!!

Not in the slightest, Debih! I think McDonalds do very good fries - but what are really superlative are their hash browns. I could feast on a plate of McDonalds hash browns, (if only Mrs O would let me) .... :D

It is a rare day when I go to a McKFKing. All I ever seem to do is spend five minutes saying "No" to all the 'options'.

Just give me what I ordered: Thank you.

Ossie the Yorkshire fish cakes can be done at home. All you need is a nice big spud cut into ¼" - 5mm thick slices at its widest part and some fish flakes. Some people par-boil the slices for a few mins.

The slices are dredged in seasoned plain flour and the fish 'sandwich' is made. This is covered in the batter and carefully slipped into hot oil. After a while the fishcake will float to the top when it can be turned over to cook evenly. All in all about eight minutes.

The ends of the spuds can be turned into the sort of chips Liz mentioned.
