I have joined the gym!

Postby Workingman » 31 May 2015, 16:42

A brand new local council one. I have a Leeds Card so it is only £2.50 for as long as you like including the swimming pool.

I have had my induction so tomorrow I am all set for the Active Life class with a gym session and swim. Same again on Wednesdays, then possibly Zumba on Fridays.

Ton, having had heart problems swimming is not the best exercise... and I swim like a lead ingot!

Zumba? Who knows? I might just do the Zum and leave the Ba till later. :P :P :P

Kaz, it's only £23 per month if I pay by direct debit. I will give it a few weeks to see how things go.

Good for you WM.

And that's a really good price.

There's a new place openng up near us. I don't know much about it (I've seen it on FB) but I get the impression that it is run by two female personal trainers, is pretty small and aimed more at women.

They have an open day next Sunday but it clashes with the college open day that I'm taking S to. I have emailed them and am going to take a look after next weekend.

I'm not a gym person but I'm curious abit this one.

That does sound intriguing Debih 8-)

Frank that's sensible, give it a try before you commit to monthly payments :)

I didn't know swimming was bad, if you have heart probs, sorry WM.

Zumba can be a little energetic, so take it steady ;)

Well done you Frank. I really need to figure out a way to fit exercise into my day somehow

And £23 a month is really good value; nice one!

Can I ask; why is swimming not good if you've had heart problems? Didn't know that and always good to learn something new

Ria, Ton, re the swimming thing.

It is probably a bit of OTT Health and Safety advice with a bit sensible advice thrown in, especially for those like me who are not good swimmers.

Swimming is a whole-body exercise and surprisingly stressful. The thinking is that for general swimming the person is in an environment which is difficult to effect any recovery from. Organised aquarobics sessions in the shallow end are fine, as is gentle swimming for those who are already good swimmers.
