He's not such a slave to modern fads as some of them.

[rant]I watched Mary Berry last night and it was all sea salt this, or Kosher salt that and Japanese Panko breadcrumbs - for a Scotch egg! Have you seen the price of them?! They're breadcrumbs Mary, make yer own. [/rant]

I enjoyed Mary Berry last night - though I missed the scotch egg bit.

I'd make everything I saw her do - especially the pheasant, the mushrooms and the lasagne.

Didn't know Nigel was back. He's my favourite - will definitely be watching that.

He does a column for the Guardian and most of his recipes are bish-bosh, bung it in the pan. Just the minimum of ingredients and the simplest of ways of cooking them.

Have you ever read The Kitchen Diaries?

They are my regular bed time reading.

Thanks Ally didn't know the lovely Nigel was back :)
His Kitchen diaries are my permanent favourite books, he cooks the way I cook :)

I didn't watch Mary but btw Lidl do a big box of really good breadcrumbs for 99p ;) - and Wm we don't often have white bread, which is definitely best for breadcrumbs :D

Then buy a loaf and crumb up. Much cheaper than Japanese Panko breadcrumbs. :o   Freeze them and defrost when you need them. 'T ain't rocket science. ;)

Have any of you come across Donal Skehan, a young Irish cook? Look for him on Youtube, he is very cute, the girls will want to mother him  He cooks simply, I've done quite a few of his recipes and they work very well.
