Headings in Windows 8

Postby medsec222 » 06 May 2015, 09:00

I'm looking for a bit of help with Word in Windows 8. I have just got a new computer and I am feeling my way around Word. I have noticed when I open a document, that the top headings are not displayed, and I have to press the Home button to see them. Is this the way Word works in Windows 8 or do I need to correct something that I may have pressed inadvertently?

Sorry I can't help. I'm still in Windows 7.

But I don't use Word, as I didn't get on too well with it.
I have used Open Office for years and I think it is excellent.

This tells you all about it...http://www.openoffice.org/why/index.html

Sorry, Meds, I can't help either.

I use SoftMaker Office and Windows 7.

This one is for Suff, or anyone else using the Word/W8 combo.

Oddly enough Frank - it seems to have righted itself. I have no idea how or why. The annoying thing is every time you get used to one package, Microsoft change it to something more complicated :?

I had my old computer looked at and cleaned up for my grandchildren Aggers, and they put Open Office on for me. It saved quite a bit of money as Microsoft are charging about £300 plus for the Office suite now. I don't think the boys have noticed any difference.

Hi Just trying to work this one out.

I’m assuming Word 2013 on Windows8.1?

Are you talking about the ribbon? All the icons etc? The ribbon is collapsible so that you only see the names of each ribbon category, home/insert etc. They were also collapsible in 2010. The main difference is that in 2010 the little ^ symbol that you use to collapse the ribbon is still visible after the collapse. In 2010 it sits at the top right next to the blue circle with the white ? help icon.

In 2013, when you collapse the ribbon using the ^ symbol on the right of the ribbon, it vanishes. To get it back you must click on one of the Ribbon entries (home say) and when the ribbon pops down, the ^ Symbol is replaced with a push pin. Click on the push pin and it changes to a ^ symbol and you are back to where you would be in 2010.

I hope that makes sense it’s easy to see but hard to describe and I don’t have 2013 on this machine so can’t do some screenshots.

I think I may have done some random clicking Suff. I am a bit nervous to press anything just now to test out your theory, as things are working. I will come back to your post when I feel a bit more confident.
