I did, for a second, wonder if you were in Intel mode on the graphics. Until I looked at the specs and realised that your laptop is running an AMD fusion E class processor. Pretty much what my netbook runs but .2ghz slower.

I've never tried installing Windows7 on it, only ever had Windows8 on it so I don't know how 7 should treat it for driver recognition.

Installing the driver should fix the problem, but I'm wondering why it was lost in the first place??? The graphics is pretty good at AMD6300 spec. The processor not so much so.

Windows update? Or fuckdate, depending on how you view it.

For many of us who do not know that our old stuff is using old legacy software/hardware we get screwed by automatic Microsoft updates. We were doing fine till some bright spark decided that we needed more and 'better' and 'upgrades us' without our permission.

Just leave us alone with what was working perfectly FCOL.

True in many cases but I always allow Windows to update my AMD graphics drivers except in the case of my desktop when it had two incompatible AMD cards in it. Also I only allow WU to download, I always choose what I want to install from it.

Thanks, Frank. I've been to this website and downloaded the programme/driver they recommended for my laptop. (The download took over half an hour!). I then re-booted my laptop and the first thing that came up was the notice "No AMD graphics driver is installed". And, yes, the printer was still inoperative.

Mrs A has now suggested that I take the laptop to PC World, as the "Whatever happens" guarantee is still valid, so that is what I will do. If that doesn't work, I think I'll get a new laptop.

I'm sorry I've put you and Suff to so much trouble.

Silly question, but did you install the driver by double clicking the downloaded .exe file?

It's not a silly question, Frank, because I didn't know you had to.

I have done so now, and it's loaded, but after re-booting, the original message
is still appearing, and my printer is still not working.

John, if the guarantee is still active and Lenovo's own driver has not cured the problem then you might be wise to use it. However, make sure you backup all the files you want to keep, inc e-mails if you download them, onto CD/DVD before you take it in just in case PC World's "cure" might be to do a fresh install of W7. BTW helping out is no trouble at all.

In addition to WM's post, make sure you have any keys for software you have installed, whether in email or in files. Ditto installation files for those programs which you might have problems getting again.

In addition to WM, it's never a problem helping out. It was just getting interesting but I'm betting you don't want to get into the install log files to see if the driver failed to install and why????

Try PC World but my best bet is they will blat the operating system and just put a new image on. I always hate that because I have to go and put in all my customisations again...
