We'll have to pay iva on the part, but not on the labour costs.

This whole country runs on mates rates - when it can 8-)

How much is VAT on your bill? Doing a rough calculation it will be about £80.00.
Labour charge is not bad. Does it show how many hours have been spent on the repair? labour charges are about £40.00 an hour.
How long have you had the car? Was it still not under warranty?
