Decisions decisions

Postby debih » 17 Apr 2015, 13:17

Guess what arrived this morning. A big fat cheque. Now safely in our bank account. :D

So decision time. Mick wants to go on holiday during the May half term. I'm already off - having taken the week off to decorate.

But he can't decide where to go. It'll be in the UK (none of us have passports and we have the dog to think about). He fancies Dorset or The Lakes. I'm leaving it with him.

I have dropped not too subtle hints about taking my mum with us too but I'm leaving that with him too. She's already coming with us in October so he might feel that's enough for one year.

Why the Lakes? You already have enough hills where you are and Ladybower res is a fair size if you want to look at some water.

We 'did' Dorset a few times, basing ourselves in Weymouth. There is Lulworth Cove one way and Chesil Beach and the Heritage Coast the other. Dorchester isn't far away and there are loads of "Picture Puzzle" villages knocking about.

Dorset's lovely, have a look around Seaton etc.
And you can plan your route to stop off somewhere near here on the way ;) :D

I'm letting Mick sort it out so he can choose where we go.

I always sort out holidays so it will be a nice change.

I quite fancy Suffolk. Never been there.

If you haven't got passports, why not "do" Scotland before you have to have one to go there? ....

Suffolk is an interesting idea, Debih, but I wonder if there's that much to do / see there .... I've never been so I can't really say. Having lived / worked in Somerset / Dorset, yes, it is attractive, but if you can go "the extra miles", Cornwall is well worth it, and if you can stay in the Penzance area, you can get day trips to the Scilly Islands.

(Don't laugh, but we're thinking of planning a weekend break in Derbyshire .... :D :D :D )

Cornwall is starting to look more likely. We go in August every year but are contemplating going in May as well now.

Where in Derbyshire are you thinking of staying Ossie?

Sorry, didn't realise you already "did" Cornwall, Debih! We have fond memories of one holiday down there. It was a real "Fawlty Towers" hotel. Halfway through our week there, the management was taken over by Arabs, who used to sidle out from behind pillars, grin and hand out Mars bars to unsuspecting guests. And the chef was definitely Merchant Navy - tattoos up his arms and often appeared, shall we say, slightly inebriated ........ On our final morning there, the head housekeeper said "You cannot leave, you are booked in for another week!" We weren't, and we fled out the back entrance before they made us stay!

As for the Derbyshire Peaks, not sure yet, might be Ashbourne or possibly the Buxton end.

Got to get the car through the MOT first .... :(
