It was the law, any other way and the gravy police called round 'for a word'. ;)

We had a York range till the back end of the 50s, so cooked with coal or logs. What eventually became the kitchen was more a scullery with a big pot sink and a cedar draining board. The washing machine was a big round tub with a paddle and the mangle clamped on to the draining board.

1960s next.

You might have, Vic, she obviously didn't.

Maybe I have super powers, NOT, but I find it hard to believe that people are so useless that they (four of them) cannot work out how a can opener works.

My God, I am loving this!

The family don't have an atom of practical ability between them, but then he's a lecturer and she's a teacher of some sort.

Watching them preparing vegetables had me reaching for the First Aid kit screaming "Keep them away form sharp and pointy things!"

And if you cannot 'cook' a Vesta meal by the time you are out of nappies it's time to give up.

She's still not very good with can openers.... or gravy! And I did wonder last night if he was actually playing the part of 'modern man let loose in the kitchen' a bit too realistically, because if he normally cooks (as he claims to do) the way he did then it is no wonder they are all like stick insects.

I have been loving this programme - they are both so useless!

I'm half way through the 1980's one - the girls had just had their friends round for soda stream drinks and cheese toasties.

And she struggled with a can opener again!
