I'm obviously very lucky where I am.... we have a black bin bin for general waste, a green for recycling and a brown for garden refuse. We also have a small green one for food waste

Black and brown are collected every two weeks and the green every alternate week. The food waste is collected weekly. They take bins even if the lids aren't closed and I've never been told off about what I put into the recycling bin.

We can also leave out small electrical items, batteries and clothing; in separate bags left on top of the bin

Yes, I pay extra for the garden waste collection, but it saves me having to make countless trips to the tip and keeps my car cleaner. The £30 I pay a year for that I don't mind paying - and there are only 2 weeks they don't collect (last December and first January I think it is) but given I don't really have garden waste from mid November to end Feb I really don't mind that

Oh, I forgot about clothes. We can put them in a carrier at the side of the bin or can ask for a charity bag from the bin men. I think they go to the Salvation Army.
