Flipping light bulbs.

Three gone since Tuesday night! I just turned the kitchen one on to see into a cupboard and 'pop' off it went.

At this rate my store of incandescent bulbs will run out and I hate those power saving things and the halogen ones are so expensive.

A fortnight ago I was in the local Ford garage getting the back window wiper blade replaced - it had split. Today, back to the garage - both front ones had gone too! I wouldn't mind if I'd inadvertently tried using them when the screen was iced up or something, but I know that's not been the case. Must be pure coincidence .....

We have six lights in the kitchen extension. When the first bulbs went I got replacements from a local electrical wholesaler. The bulbs have two small prongs at one end where they fit into the bulb holder.
Have since done a search on the internet and had four delivered to the house cheaper than one from the local supplier. Will definitely use them again.
The other lights have got the long life bulbs in and I have spares if one should fail.
One bulb went in the bathroom light. Got a replacement from Screwfix. Gives a good light but not very energy efficient. We want a good light, never mind the expense.

Frank, I paid something silly like 39p for one from Home Bargains a few weeks ago.

When we moved here some of the fittings had bulbs in them that cost around £20 each and could only be bought online. Some flippin' government directive had been put in place dictating that new builds had to have a percentage of these fittings to ensure that energy saving bulbs were used and these special light fittings would only take 3-pronged bulbs.
Of course, the easy way around this was to take out the actual light fitting and replace it with a normal one Only one bulb has blown so far but as each one goes the fitting will be replaced.

When we first replaced withe dark bulbs they made me feel depressed so we replaced them all again with normal bulbs!

I've gut GU10 bulbs in my kitchen light. Two weekends ago I was as Ikea and bought some LED GU10 bulbs to replace them and so far - touch wood - they're really good. As bright as the others, more energy saving, they don't take time to warm up and apparently have a very very long working time and because of the low voltage they draw they shouldn't blow any system.

yes they were expensive at £5.00 per bulb, but given how often I was replacing the normal GU10's it'll be worth the money I think. The only downside is that you apparently can't dim them so not really good for the lounge or bathroom unfortunately.
