We live next door to a pub, and the way in for barrels of beer is through a wide gateway beside our gable wall. Our builders have done a great job of repairing the various deep cracks in our old external walls, a lot had to be done because it had been many years since any work had been done on most of them. Today (finally) they arrived to start the painting. We were both out from just before 11am and I got home to discover that the men delivering barrels of Heineken to the pub had unloaded a barrel carelessly, banged it against our wall, and knocked off a chunk of render from the corner of the wall Our builders saw it happen and pointed it out to the delivery men, who literally just shrugged their shoulders The thing is that they only had to park a couple of feet further down to avoid this happening.
The guy in the pub is interested in being a good neighbour, he took a photo and immediately sent it to the Heineken rep, who phoned me - apparently their deliveries are done by another company and he gave me their name and number. Rang that company and got an ok-ish reaction, his first question was how much would it cost to fix I said I didn't know, but it was more important that (a) it should not happen again and (b) shoulder shrugging was not the appropriate response when shown damage you have just caused. I have sent him a couple of photos and am waiting to see what he says.
What annoys us more than anything is the casual disregard by the delivery men for damage they caused by their carelessness
