Are you in the path of Cyclone Pam?

It has caused a hell of a lot of damage in Melanesia esp Vanuatu. New Caledonia is next and she is heading to NZ.

Stay safe.

Yes. Sort of. Who knows. Does that answer your question?

At this stage it is predicted to only come close to Auckland where I am, but to pass over Gisborne (eastern most point of the country). However, these things have a habit of changing direction and wind speed. Cyclone Lusi last year was suppose to go east of the country, but by the time it got to us it came from the west. (that one was a fizzer) so it's anyone's guess at this stage.

This one is a bit of a worry at the moment. It is a cat 5, and deepening still. the barometer pressure and creation location and path is so far coping a cyclone from the 80's that people still talk about. Cyclone Bola.

Still, I will be preparing for a hit of strong winds, bringing in everything from outside, garden furniture, bbq's pot plants, turning over the garden tables as they are too big, bringing in the chickens, locking the cat flap, refreshing our drinking water, stocking up on food and checking emergency supplies. I'm also half considering shifitng things downstairs upstairs incase we flood, things that would be damaged in flood waters, like books, but not going to bother with the kitchen etc as they can all be washed. I don't care about he carpet, the curtains however I do, but will need to remain drawn incase the windows break. We have a stream at the back of our property that most of my suburbs storm water drains into, so in normal rain it becomes a swift flowing river. It normally handles it just fine.

BUT saying all this, I prepare like this with every cyclone alert and they are normally just a bit of wind and rain, because I remember Bola. But we have not had one like that since the 80's, but I am "mildly concerned" about this one. I'll be keeping an ear on the weather reports. I was suppose to hit tonight, but that is now tomorrow night, which means its travelling slower, ie more damage potential.

So at this stage it hits sunday night, all day monday and should be gone by tuesday.
Everything happens for a reason

The UK and NZ are at similar latitudes, but with wildly different weather patterns.

Cyc Pam could be very destructive down your way, so do take care. It is well known that slow moving fronts cause the most damage.
