What do you have for breakfast?

Postby debih » 05 Mar 2015, 14:12

We often do a dinner thread but what about breakfast? What do you all usually have?

I have never been much of a breakfast eater - I always used to need to have been up for at least two hours before I could face food - but since I entered "Get Healthy 2015" one of the things I have had to change is eating first thing in the morning.

So I have gone from having a couple of very strong coffee's and then nothing until lunchtime to now always having breakfast.

I started off by having porridge but have now moved onto overnight oats - 30g of porridge oats with some milk and a couple of dollops of natural yoghurt and a handful of frozen berries, put in a bowl in the fridge overnight. I have to take it out as soon as I get up as I find it too cold to eat straight from the fridge. I have that most mornings now though I do keep some instant porridge at work just in case I don't get chance first thing in a morning.

On a Saturday I have the oats again but on a Sunday tend to have boiled egg and soldiers.

I am now finding I need to eat pretty much as soon as I get up in a morning - a complete turn around from pre 2015

I like the sound of the overnight oats Debbie, I'll have to try those!

Just lately I've been having a low fat natural yoghurt with granola mixed into it. I'm out of the habit of eating breakfast but I should do really as I get a lot of exercise in a morning and it's a long time until lunch.

I have breaktfast at work. I get up at 6am and and have coffee whilst I get myself ready but tend not to eat until about 9.30 / 10am. It's usually either porridge with milk and honey. Our work provides bowls of fruit so if there happens to be a banana or some berries I'll add those to the porridge. If it's not porridge then it's scrambled eggs (done in the microwave) on whole wheat toast.

During the weekend I often don't have breakfast and tend to eat about 11.30 or so. But when I do it'll usually be two slices of bread or ryvita with boiled or fried eggs or some cold meat (salami or ham) or cheese - depends on the mood. When I have guests staying over I try and make more effort

I am not a fan of breakfast, except for a weekend fry-up, but I do like an early mid-morning snack. I have recently started on oat cakes with a smear of honey or a piece of fruit.

The weekend thing is a bit traditional: bacon; sausage; egg; beans, fried in the same pan as the bacon was done in; fried bread, grilled tomatoes and fried mushrooms.

It's the beans that make it special.   Giving them a quick fry in the bacon fat makes them taste sooo much better than with them heated in a plain pan.

Always porridge, every day, winter and summer alike. I must have something to eat first thing, and I find a couple of tablespoons of porridge cooked in the m/wave for one minute with a fair bit of milk and a sprinkling of sugar, hits the spot.

And a mug of coffee 8-)

I can't face much, except when on holiday as that's a later start ;) I couldn't eat eggs, or a cooked brekkie much before about 9-30 or 10ish

I like something light, rarely cereal although sometimes we have porridge in winter :) - It's usually rice cakes, or gluten-free toast, with dairylea and marmite or low-sugar jam :) Sometimes a banana after :)

Depends what we feel like :D

A fresh roll with either mortadella (think spam with olives   ) or cheese and something.

Grumpy has tinned mackrell in tomato sauce twice a week, on toast.

I have to eat - supposed to eat - little and often, but tend to have a roll and then banana and yoghurt later on.
