This a really rude question and please feel free to ignore me, but how much did you pay for Oscar? You should have a pedigree regardless of whether you want it or not, that rings more alarm bells for me than anything. She impressed you with " all KC registered and his grandmother won at Crufts" and then didn't offer you a pedigree"? What breed of spaniel are they?

Sorry Kate I am glad Oscar has a good home with you and I hope it all works out, but something is very wrong about this.

Lots of fun to be had then! Oh the joys of toe nibbling, chasing around and chaos!
I've always used indoor crates for all my dogs. Also dogs are always crated in the car.

One other thing and I am sorry to bang on about this, but I have a mother in law who buys genuine leather jackets off Polish men in car parks, brings them home and they are plastic so I hate seeing people conned.

If they are KC registered you must have the paper work to transfer them to your ownership. At the moment they are still registered to her, if they are registered. It is like buying a car, they have a log book

Please don't think I being difficult, I am sure Oscar and Louie will have lovely lives and I suppose that is all that matters, but someone is making money selling unregistered, unvaccinated, unwormed and underage puppies and I am sorry but that is wrong

Not really Shell, she rendered the information on the advert she had placed in the farm shop.. We did not ask for any papers as we have no intention of breeding. She said the pups sold for £800 each ( their last litter) she wanted £250 for the girls and £200 for the boys.. She wanted good homes for them so she sold us two for £200.. The vet says that they are super pups
In super condition.. Welsh spaniels I imagine , exactly like dear Aggers. Oscar already knows where he has to go for a pee.."very intelligent". He is a lovely little beastie!! I cannot believe that Gusty took Louie onto her bed in the night he was crying so much.. Ruby her Rotty snuggled him up to her and they slept like logs and this morning Ruby gave him a good tongue wash and ear cleanup I said what about if he wants to go to the Loo, Gus said he lets her know.. That to me is a step too far.. She said he felt secure and warm..

I've no doubt that there is nothing wrong with the pups, but I'm wonder now if the parents have been stolen. You must get those papers, if it is legit, there will be no problem with them. If the papers have problems and don't materialise, thn I would consider getting the police involved.

Oh Dear,... We gave away thoroughbred dogs over the years.. Labradors... Money is not everything if one has pups and wants loving homes for them...
The dogs lived on a big farm, the woman is well known in the area, she has horses as well as other animals.. I would think times are a bit hardthe cost of livery has spiralled, and the costs of vets and animal foods.. she is single and her main concern was to find loving homes for them...There were two others in residence at the farm where we bought them.. This area has small communities.. A Little story last year we were wriving to town Llandindrod Well, and in the road was a large female Rottvieler, she was distressed and totally disorientated. My daughter stopped the car and put her on the back seat, (amazing daughter) the dog was in a terrible state she was bleeding covered in sores and had obviously given birth.. We spent three hours trying to get hold of the RSPCA to whom I would never give a penny, no one came we sat at a clinic I attentded and finally a young man turned up who stated a friend had given him the dog the week before , that she had had puppies all taken away and sold. We were furious.. We rang a local dog centre, reported the state of the poor animal, and again the RSPCA who never even visited the fellow to look at the poor distressed animal.
We were outraged by the lack of interest of the dogs condition.. We returned home with a bloody seat in the car, and had to put flea powder all over due to the dogs infestation...

I will confess now - we bought Pepper from a very dodgy looking chap. We answered an ad that seemed very genuine but when we got there there was no sign of the parent dogs, just poor little Pepper, a scruffy bundle of fur who toddled straight up to us - love at first sight. We asked about the mum, he made excuses.........The place was a bit of a tip....... We looked at each other, as we knew we ought not to do it, we knew we should walk away and find a reputable breeder - but we just couldn't leave her there to goodness knows what fate!

I do feel guilty as with hindsight she might well have come from a puppy farm, but she was already born and in need of love and a home......................We had her checked out that day - she was almost certainly only 6 or 7 weeks old and unkempt but very healthy and she has continued to be extraordinarily healthy, has a very sweet if rather barmy nature, is rather large for a Mini Schnauser and her markings are not quite right for the Mini breed either but we absolutely adore her!

I'm so glad Oscar has had a check up at the vets and is in good health. I hope you'll be very happy with him, Kate, he sounds delightful.

Sadly I think puppy farms will always exist. If it's not someone like us that purchases a pup and gives it a good home, then some other unscrupulous person might (and I know which I'd prefer for the sake of the little creature). Either way the pup / kitten /rabbit / ferret whatever has been born and is desperate for a loving home - and I am 10000% certain little Oscar and Louie have exactly that with Kate and Gus.

Yes, buying from someone working with or running a puppy farm doesn't help and perpetuates the problem but I really believe that the ONLY way to stop puppy farming is to make it illegal and for the government and whatever forces it takes to clamp down and issue huge fines (ideally to be passed on to rescues) and prison terms. But until that happens they will continue doing what they are doing.

As for the pedigree papers; my new cat is a pedigree but I got her for £100 less than the other cats as she isn't registered with a club. I have a pedigree paper, but all that is, is a home produced piece of A4 with the family tree on the one side and her name on the other. But that count's didly squat if she's not registered. But she is just the most adorable thing

And Kate, when you have a chance - photo please? Fusses to your furry friends and I'm glad - dodgy or not - that these two are guaranteed a happy life, that they will be neutered and not used as breeding machines etc.
