A bargain of bargains.

I was in the Co-op getting a paper and a few bits - cost £12.49. When I went to pay there was a £1 voucher on the counter, the Co-op does these pretty often. It had been left by another customer, but got scanned - cost now £11.49. I also had a £1.50 voucher from an earlier shop - now £9.99. When my receipt was printed out came another voucher for £1.50 - cost effectively now £8.49.

The duty manager then asked if I would be interested in an 18 can case of Strongbow. It had been the bottom of a pile stacked on the floor and damp had got to the packaging. Mine for £2.... I mean why not? The sale went through as a mark down and when the receipt was printed out came another £1 voucher - so 18 cans for £1.

I am wondering that if I do another shop the Co-op will pay me?

Saundra, I get the vouchers through the post as well. It was an option on their clubcard website rather than faffing with points.

Co-op meat is usually good quality for the price, especially when they do their 2 for £x deals. Throw in a voucher and it works out fairly inexpensive.

I'm wondering whether the little McColls down on the main road, our only shop, is being taken over by the Co-op. Back in the Autumn I spotted a council notice on the lamppost by there and it was a licence application on behalf of the Co-op. There's only McColls, the chippy and the Indian restaurant there but it's not changed names yet though so I don't know.

Jo, where we used to live we had a McColl's. It was mainly booze, fags and mags with only a nod to food. The food was either top brands or brands nobody had ever heard of, and all for top money. If you do get a Co-op you are in for a treat.

They do have unexpected bargains from time to time. We have a small Co-op within walking distance of our house. That is where I got the Chateauneuf du Pape for £3 a bottle last year.

I've started to use our Co-Op more and more. I'm not mad keen on it but for popping to shops inbetween my big shop (if you know what I mean) I'm finding it better to go there than Sainsburys (we have a Sainsburys, Co-Op, Co-Op Local and an Iceland) as because they don't have as much choice I don't get tempted to spend on things I don't want!

And each time I go I seem to get money off things and then vouchers. We have to pay for the car park above the Co-Op but if you spend more than £10 they give you the parking fee back. They always reimburse the maximum two hours fee (£1.90) even if you have only paid the one hour fee (80p) as the little ticket you give them doesn't actually say how much you've paid.

When I shopped there in December - I paid for my shopping and got a voucher for a free tub of Quality Street - the big ones - worth £4. So I fetched it and he put it through the till, nothing to pay but was given a £1.50 off voucher for my next shop! So they actually paid me £1.50 to take a tub of Quality Street off their hands!!!

My mum likes their "ready meals". Not ready meals as such but packs with a couple of chicken breasts and a sachet of some sort of sauce with it. She does most of her shopping there as without a car it is easier for her to get to.
