We use the same Countrywide shop for dogs cats and any other of our animals needs.. She had put an advert up looking for interest..
We paid a good price for them, the pups parents looked in super condition as do the pups, they are on solids as well as a little milk... I think Oscar would nibble his way through the cage if it were not made of steel.. I dont like the idea of the cages but they are roomy and Oscar is fast asleep having had a dance about the sitting room and tired himself out!! Also should anything untoward happen to me Gusty would take on the animals, she almost has a sanctuary now with the abandoned cats, as well as her own and Ruby her rescue dog who is adorable.

P.S. Oscar is white with brown head markings and a lovely small brown patch on his back.. Gusty's is brown with a few white patchs.

I'm sure they're lovely Kate, and I know how much you love and care for your animals...I'd speak to any real life friend just the same way though ;)
The cages/crates do sound horrid but every puppy I've seen or heard of loves them :)

Kate - Having met you, I am happy that you are quite capable of caring for your pets.

I must confess, however, that I have a few misgivings about the matter.

Incidently, my dog, Prince (my avatar) is a Welsh Springer spaniel. The Breed Standard specifies the colour
as being Red and White, although Prince, being nearly eleven years old, has now turned more brown than red.

I presume that, being Kennel Club registered, you have, or will be, provided with a pedigree ?

I am a member of the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club, and would be pleased to help you in that capacity if you
care to contact me via a PM.

I also don't doubt that you will provide him with a loving home but are you really sure that you are able to give him all the exercise that he will need? I know that as a puppy he won't need that much, just short bursts, but once he starts to grow he will need quite a bit.

I would also be concerned about the breeder being so quick in letting them go when they weren't really ready - not having been wormed, etc.

But its such a shame that you bought one from a breeder when I know that you were thinking of giving an unwanted dog from the homing centre a loving home.

As for crates - they are fantastic and I would strongly recommend that you always use it. It will give him his own space and a sense of security.

I'm looking forward to seeing photos. :D

Best dog was Max. He was the runt of a litter and nobody wanted him although his parents were KC registered. The litter was an accident in the household where they lived. He was not bred for profit.

Worst dog was Klaus, the nastiest piece of work ever. He was bred for profit and had all the right papers, wormers and injections.

Both were Alsatians.

For those reasons I could never get too worked up about breeders' rules. I would tend to go more on gut feeling about how I felt about the 'breeder' and the dogs themselves.

I hope Oscar turns out to be a 'Max'.

I'm sure the three of you will be happy together. I'm sure things happen for reasons, so I'm sure it will all be fine. I don't know anything about dogs, one day I hope to get my own.

I got my cat George at 6 weeks, but only because my friend was fostering him from about a week old, and I lived close so she could keep an eye on him and daily phone calls. Lol. But then he did have a health scare at 4 weeks and was almost put down.

And I can see some of the others reservations about the breeder. When I was ringing around for cats they wouldn't let them go till about 12 weeks I think it was, and only then after I had visited multiple times, and someone had checked out my home.

A friend of mine uses a crate. He wasn't so sure of it to start with, but his dog use to go and put himself to bed in there when he was ready for a sleep, they also used it to give them a break from the puppyness. :D

We had a crate for Pepper when she was younger - I wasn't sure at first but she absolutely loved it and would often go and lie in it for some peace and quiet :D We don't use it any more, but it was very useful 8-)

I wish you lots of luck with the new pup Kate - perhaps it wasn't the ideal way to get a new pup, but it's done now and I am sure he will have love and care with you xx

I looked for around two months following us getting Ruby from a rescue centre, (Gus gave a very generous donation to the centre for her, and she is adored) all the dogs I saw we're either too old or the wrong breed (or too big). I would have been happy to have had a dog that wasn't the most beautiful, a mixed breed.. We just "happened to see the parents in the car next to ours"
I have been up through the night as Oscar made it clear he wanted a pee!! I fed him and gave him a little drop of milk and his breakfast at 6.30 he was like a hurricane, biting my toes tearing around the kitchen.
"Now he sleeps!!! "
They both had all their jabs etc yesterday the vet felt at seven weeks they are ready for them, plus de worming etc.
I have not and did not ask for his pedigree it meant nothing to me and neither did Gusty. Barney greeted him solicitously
This morning... We await the next episode.
