CANCER

Postby KateLMead » 31 Jan 2015, 09:17

I am sick to death of having CANCER rammed down our throats on TV. facebook In the media on the news. Day after day
We are subjected to the horrible facts of symptoms etc. I had cancer four years ago, I have to go for my check up in March. We need the public to be warned of the symptoms, however I think we are all pretty clued up. But this constant stream of being bombarded with symptoms, what you could have if you cough,or have a pain really is depressing.

But if it makes just a few people go to the doctor, get diagnosed, treated and survive it then it is worth it.

I'm sure the adverts make some people sit up and take notice and go get checked out.

I'd rather see adverts for something useful than cars, banks and insurance!

I tend to agree with Kate when you have been touched by cancer you don't want to
Be constantly reminded of it
But the adverts do save lives

It is a fine line to walk, isn't it?

There is no such disease as "Cancer" any more than there is a disease called "Cough". It comes in many forms and they all have different symptoms which are all too easy to pass off as something else until it becomes too late.

From a male perspective we have been left behind in terms of this sort of information. It is only relatively recently that warning signs for prostate and testicular cancers have been getting anything like the the coverage of those for breast, cervical and ovarian cancers for women. On balance I think the adverts are a good thing.

I don't like being reminded, but when they have a particular campaign then obviously they want to reach as many people as possible, so some will hear/see the adverts a lot more times than others.
The current one is good I think, because it mentions particular symptoms that most of us might not have been aware of.

I suppose you all are correct. Maybe I find it more irritating because "I have been depressed" you are all right public awareness is important. I eat my words..

I must admit that the lung cancer awareness ad, with the tumour growing on the cigarette upsets me a little, makes me sad about my dad, but I think on balance the ads will do good - even if they save just a few lives it will be well worth the discomfort of watching them...........

Kate I do know where you're coming from with this though ((((x))))
