To be fair Di, the damage to the sofas isn't caused by the dogs, it has worn through, on the seams, round the stitching on the bits where we all sit They don't shed hair either - but I am determined this time to keep them off

Oh I really hope you can keep them off it this time! Problem is they'll wonder what's happening, if they've always been allowed on the sofas....our two jump on mine (black leather sofa and chair, second hand though) but I have a throw tucked really well in on both as well as two large bean bags for dogs on the sofa.....it was meant to be a lovely cosy conservatory but is really a glorified kennel Tbf they don't come into the house proper, so at least my cream fabric three piece is safe!! Well apart from Smudge who uses any flat surface of it as a scratch post!!!

Loads of snow here, so much fell from having none at 6 when I got home from work last night, to bed time and then more overnight - must have had about 6 inches I think But it didn't freeze so was nice and soft.....I easily shovelled it off the decking this morning Managed to get out and do my grocery shop (in the car, nearest medium sized Asda is 5 miles away) and then popped into town this aft for a small mooch and a latte.....it's a bit sad in town as earlier this week, the body of a young student was discovered in the River Wear, very close to the shops....he'd been missing for a couple of weeks. It was very sad to think he'd been so close and yet so far.....

Oh that is sad isn't it Gal

Snow yikes that's a lot!! We do get it here, we were completely snowed in for nearly a week a few years ago, but it is a fairly rare event.

I did see that about the student Gal So sad, and far from an isolated case lately, there have been several cases of young people drowning in rivers after a night out - booze and water do not mix

They were saying three students in 15 months in the R Wear alone

It's so weird....the university (and the river!) have been here for ever, so it's a mystery why this has happened so often in so short a time.

Don't know if anyone saw the news link I shared on FB where a professional diver from the North East had driven from his base in Scotland to find Euan's body. He was interviewed on the local news afterwards and seemed such a lovely gentleman.

My take on this is that a lot of these youngsters don't just get tipsy, they get blotto - and near water that is incredibly dangerous So many of them are not in the least street smart IMO

Re: Dogs on the furniture.

I know we spoiled our Prince. We took the view that he was one of the family,
so we made up removable covers for the three-piece suite. He was so good that
he wouldn't jump up on them unless the covers were in place.
When visitors arrived the covers were hidden in a cubby-hole.

Just got our local news on now and can you believe there has been another (completely blotto!) young student dragged from the river by a line of police in the early hours of this morning!! Luckily the result was a good one, but it could have been so much worse!

I think the price of alcohol in the bars and restaurants in the city will have to be raised....or this will go on and on
