Blizzrds!

If the last ten minutes are anything to go by we could be in for a tough time ahead.

The average wind speed is about 40 km/h, with gust up to 65 km/h, and they are bringing in horizontal snow showers. I could hardly see the houses down the road about 100 m away. If it continues as dark fall the rush-hour could be a bit tricky.

Is it still going on Frank? I've had a few friends on FB post that they've had the same weather but it lasted about 5 or 10 minutes followed by blue skies and sunshine - :? go figure

That is exactly how it goes, Ria - blizzard one minute, blue skies the next. It is that which will make it such a problem as it gets dark; it already gets quite dark when the blizzard is on. We have a yellow warning up here that is in effect throughout the night.

Heavy hail storms here on and off and a very dark sky.

us here in the south are definitely being spared... we've had rain and apparently some hail but that's about it. It's been dry and clear for quite a bit now; albeit windy

It's been very windy here today, and we've had a few squally showers with sleet / hail, but never long-lasting. The wind has died down now, and I'm looking out westwards on a clear sky, just a few small black clouds scudding along in the distance ....

There was horrendous rain and wind here this morning, I went out in the sunny spell afterwards but got caught in another rainstorm  Luckily I had my parka and hood on so I persevered with my walk, and five minutes later the sun was out again, and this time it stayed out! :)

I hope the snow dies down Frank :(

We've had weird weather all day.

Sun, torrential rain, hail, sleet, really hgh winds and now snow. Not much though and it seems quite wet.

We are on high alert in Derbyshire for snow. I hate these stupid weather alerts - talk about nanny state! How on earth did we manage before we were told to be careful?

The local paper is having a field day giving an hour by hour account of the snow! I'm not sure exactly what it is reporting on as so far we have a light dusting - and we are on high ground - and it is now raining!
