The wind ....

Postby TheOstrich » 09 Jan 2015, 20:47

Just now, I went to the garage to get, at Mrs O's request, a loaf and pork joint from the freezer and a new jar of apple sauce. It's one of those up and over garage doors and when I pressed the fob to close it, it started coming down - but stopped half-way just like it does when I accidentally park the car too close and it hits the bonnet ...

I sent it back up again, pressed close, and it got 3/4 of the way down before stopping again. Third time I was lucky and it shut.

Each time it stalled, it was at the same time as a huge gust of wind. I can only conclude the strength of the wind into the garage was so great that the door sensors thought it had hit a solid object ...

Hope y'all are surviving the storms - thinking especially of Poll and Shaz who must have borne the brunt of it up in the "Central Belt", and Debih in her vulnerable valley-side position in Derbyshire .....

Sounds nasty Ossie - hope you all stay safe over there.

Been a bit blowy today, and we sometimes get the tail end of what you're getting.

Terribly stormy all day here and still howling around. My brother wanted to visit our parents' grave and the three of us could barely stand upright while standing beside it. Many of our friends have gone to Blackpool to compete there this weekend, I would not have liked being on a plane today, I can tell you :o

Who's peekin' out from under a stairway
Calling a name that's lighter than air
Who's bending down to give me a rainbow
Everyone knows it's Windy

Who's tripping down the streets of the city
Smilin' at everybody she sees
Who's reachin' out to capture a moment
Everyone knows it's Windy

She has certainly been been tripping down the streets of this city.

I'm lying in bed (in the attic. I am not made to sleep in the attic please understand, it is where our bedroom is) with the velux window open a notch listenng to the wind howling past.

I fetched L from a friends this evening, driving the back roads and there were loads of branches on the lanes. We have had a tree come down behind the garden earlier this evening. We heard it fall but we know it hasn't done any damage so haven't been out to investigate.

The Internet is rather intermittent - I assume the wind is affecting the phone lines.

It's quite windy here too but not nearly as bad as you are getting across the water. I think we must be sheltered by the mainland with the wind coming from the east.
