Which way is your other half?

Postby miasmum » 18 Dec 2014, 08:43

We went to friends last night, their lounge looked beautiful with the tree and all their lovely tasteful decorations. We got talking about Christmas and every year they both have a week off, they go to a nearby market down, stay over for one night and do all the Christmas shopping. They had bought their tree and decorated the lounge on the Saturday together, they said it took all day, but we kept stopping for coffee. Sunday they went and bought new lights for the outside and put them up. They wrap the presents together and write half the cards each and this weekend they are delivering all the presents together.

Compare this.....

I put the tree up, but I couldn't be bothered with the other stuff I usually put above the doors and round the pictures. I put the lights on the tree, and the red ones don't work. Don't worry says Tim, we just won't bother switching them on. I have bought, wrapped, written and delivered everything, he has no idea what anyone has.

I am feeling really down today, our friends lounge looked so beautiful and mine is just dark and dreary and I don't actually care enough to do anything about it. I hardly sit in it anyway, I spend most of my time at home either in the kitchen or up here on the computer

Shell I do most of the Christmas prep too! Mick did bring the tree down and put the lights on, and put the outside tree lights up, but Becky decorated it, I put all the knick knacks out, and the candles, I buy and wrap absolutely everything including the pressies for his mum and my inlaws! I buy and write the cards, I plan the meals, I cook the meals :?

I think in most families it is far more likely to be the case that the woman does it, and your friends are fairly exceptional. Don't think you are alone in this! ((((((x)))))

Tim has absolutely no interest in Christmas and to be honest neither do I. I just can't wait until it is all over. On Saturday 27th I shall breathe a huge sigh of relief

Luke is coming home Christmas Eve and going back Saturday morning. I shall enjoy having him home, apart from worrying about the seizures

but thats part of it, if you need medical help over Christmas you are pretty stuffed, no one is available

Mrs A and I are both Christmas Fans, and our lounge now is aglow with a tall slim-line tree with
coloured lights, a huge tapestry that lights up, Santa and his sleigh, a snow-covered village with
a train running round it, Christmas cards, and various other yule-tide ornaments. We both take
part it putting it all up.

After all, you're only young once

If your room looks dull and gloomy give it a make over
Even if your never in it or shut the door

We're huge Christmas fans too Aggers :D :D :D

It's a bit of a mixture here. We always buy the tree together and share decorating the house. It's part of the fun and we both love making the house look Christmassy, actually I think E would cry if he didn't get his 'real' tree

As for the pressies, well we do discuss what we're giving everyone and since he retired 2 years ago we do all the shopping together, but I get lumbered with writing all the cards and the wrapping. He's even been known to ask me if I'll wrap my present from him, it doesn't happen I hasten to add  I also do all the cooking, but I'm guessing that's pretty normal in most homes. I really can't grumble though, we don't have a dishwasher here in the rental so he does all the washing up. Mind you I'm betting a dishwasher will be first on his essentials list when we finally move

I love Christmas and love decorating the house. This year was a bit difficult because of redoing the flooring and not being able to do much until earlier this week but next year I'm blocking off a weekend to go all out :D . And I want to buy a few extra bits and bobs in the sales to cheer everything up even more :D :P :P :P

Roll on Christmas 2015
