Help me choose my holiday

Postby miasmum » 16 Dec 2014, 11:24

As you know we are off to Cornwall on 3rd Jan. I obviously wanted to go to Mevagissey, Tim turned his nose up. He then asked me to see if the Sail Loft on the harbour was free, which it was but only for part of our week, so we agreed on a split week, 4 nights somewhere of his choice and 3 of mine in Mevagissey.

So from Weds to Sat (3 nights) we are staying here The Sail Loft

http://www.mevagisseyholidaycottages.co.uk/sailloft.htm

She let us have it for £239 for the three nights. We have now realised splitting this week has worked out almost double the price.

So Tim has decided on Porthleven

We have these to choose from (the house on the first photo is the view from the house not the actual house) Pendrea

http://www.cornishcottageholidays.co.uk ... n/pendrea/ That one is £250

This one again at £250 Loveday

http://www.abovebeachcottages.co.uk/loveday.html

and this one. This one should be £350 but the owner has agreed to let us have it for £300 St Elvans Courtyard

His other choice is Port Isaac where there is this one at £250

http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/accommoda ... ?src=LSbut I fancy Porthleven as it looks out to the west and Helen (who own Mevagissey holiday cottages) says the sea can be really wild which you don't get in Meva as Meva faces East so is protected

What do you reckon?

By the second one I presume you mean Loveday?

The views are stunning straight out to sea.

I am stuck between that one and the third one.

The third one looks out over the harbour so would have more to actually watch. A view of nothing but sea is lovely, but it'll be dark by 4 so there will be nothing to see, whereas the harbour will still be busy so lots to watch all the time

Then again the reason for choosing Porthleven was the dramatic sea, but you can't arrange that, it might be like a mill pond all the time we are there

I like the Sail Loft as it looks cosy and welcoming, but the rest leave me cold. They are all a bit clinical and lacking in colours. I would be worried about spending my time going round cleaning every day.

Yep, Loveday and St Elvans here...although I've been to Port Isaac when passing a few times and it's a lovely little place :)

I rather like the Portleven one for the very reason you give, a nice view of a busy harbour.
