Talking about the future and competition towards traditional auto manufacturers.
Below is a video of a drive from San Francisco to Los angelese. I starts in downtown frisco and takes you all the way to LA.
Notes.
- An intervention is considered where the driver has to stop the car doing what it is doing and make it do the right thing. In this case no interventions are required
- The driver has to touch the wheel or press the buttons on the wheel every so many seconds or the self drive will disconnect. This is a safety feature for the software until it is fully capable and certified
- This drive has been done on a set of roads that FSD does not have mapped. The only mapping is standard google maps and the Tesla equivalent mapping data.
- Every other competent self drive system available today requires this route to be laser mapped in extreme detail and for the vehicle to have all that data downloaded locally so it can compare the road with the pre mapped digital image.
- The Tesla software can do this on any street, lane, dirt road, regardless of whether it is on a map or has been pre mapped.

It doesn't need to be connected to the internet, it just drives.
Last year Tesla Autopilot was like a 9 year old in charge of a car. Today it is like a 15 year old learner driver. Within 6 months it will be like a driver who has newly passed their test. The main difference is that every vehicle with this software will be able to drive at the same standard.
And back again.
