I guess we pensioners can't grumble too much because we did get the 8% rise under the triple-lock, even if it's only worth 6.4% after tax.

But what on earth was that £1m donation to fund a memorial at Alrewas for Muslim soldiers all about? I'd much rather that £1m went onto the Defence budget .......

I get the basic State Pension. I also get Stae graduated Pension. But most of that is taken off as I get a Company pension.

Have learnt from the loal council new bulletin that a couple who are 70 years old and getting the higher State Pension have now ben granted ADDITIONAL benefits.
of more than £20,000.00--yestwenty thosand pounds a year. Presumably they will not have to pay tax on this.

Yet I have to pay tax on my pensions as it is classedas earned income.

And just how much of the so-called 8.5% has the Chancellor managed to claw back through fiscal drag by keeping the personal allowance at its present level. They are con merchants!

I think that there is a calculator on Sky News saying that if the tax-free allowance had not been frozen since 2021 it would now be £15,220 rather than £12,500. That would help ever so many people.

That would be a good starting point and would help everybody Frank, not just the pensioners. The low paid would certainly benefit as well. Even the high taxpayers would benefit from raising the personal allowance. In my opinion it is fair all round.

I also heard a comment regarding fiscal drag, that over the next year or so even the very basic state pensioners will be dragged into the tax bracket. So much for the non-taxable pension.

Meds, if the tax-free rate had not been frozen all workers paying tax would now be getting about £40 per week more and, as you say, it would be fair to all. Unfortunately, no chancellor is going to raise the rate to the level it should be any time soon. it would be too big a leap in a short time. Even so some incremental increases slightly above inflation would not go amiss. It would also be simple to do with no need for different tax cuts at different levels.
