Why can't people take responsibility for their own actions

Postby meriad » 02 Mar 2017, 11:20

Sorry, a bit of a vent, but some people really make me wonder....

Love her dearly but Nadine, my SIL, put a post on FB complaining that because Amazon Prime didn't deliver on time she ended up having to sew a cat costume for her daughter (it's National Book Day today) at 6.30 this morning. Errrm... National Book Day happens every year and you get lots of notice. So why leave the ordering of said costume so late that you risk it not arriving in time. Yes, Amazon should have delivered, but they're not the only ones to blame. And also, why leave it to 6.30 this morning - you were home all day yesterday????

Then at work - a company we work quite closely with had a private screening of some film; we had a list of clients that we invited and were hoping that 4 people from here could go as well. However, the event was overbooked resulting in only 1 colleague able to go. About 2 hours prior to the event one of our clients cancelled, leaving space for a colleague; however the other three had a strop earlier on because they weren't invited so made other plans. One colleague in particular was saying how embarrassing it was that she wasn't there as most of our clients going were actually her contacts etc etc etc.... but she wasn't dressed appropriately (jeans and a jumper!) and therefore now it was too late. Well again; you've known about the event for weeks, so a) you shouldn't wear jeans / jumper to work anyway during the week and b) esp when you know there is a client event happening and you may be asked at short notice to go. But no, she kept blaming anyone and everything else and bemoaning the fact that it was embarrassing for her. Well all of your own making sweetheart..... esp as always happens with these events; people say yes and then just don't turn up.

OK, rant over - thanks for listening. Sigh...

Oh dear...some people do have a habit of automatically blaming something/someone/anything but themselves, don't they?
Very tedious to listen to,especially when you know you'll have to bite your tongue x

I always hated things at school that needed costumes as I am not at all creative or good with a needle :? Aunty Rose came up trumps a couple of times, but otherwise I cheated and cobbled together bought bits and pieces for my kids   I don't remember leaving it quite that last minute though

They showed lots on Breakfast this morning Kaz, most were pretty normal clothes but went with the book.
One little girl was 'electricgirl' and just had a t-shirt with a bright flash on the front :)

All of that would drive me mad too Ria.

World Book Day filled me with dread, there's no way I could've left it until the last minute. I got around it by looking on EBay one year and seeing some fabulous M&S clearance Harry Potter gowns, complete with glasses and a wand. All it needed was a scar drawn on with eyeliner and the job was a good 'un. They lasted them for years.
Of course, that didn't suffice when they had to dress as a Victorian, a Viking, a WW2 evacuee, Henry VIII...
And there was the annual 'Child from Another Land' day (but not America because sending kids in jeans and a US themed sweatshirt wasn't apparently good enough  )

it does one good to have a good rant occasionally, Ria.

I'm often doing it, because, frankly, there's a hell of a lot of things to rant about now-a-days.

I could not be a parent today with all this dressing up every five minutes. It drives me mad that every little thing has to be special and needs its own day. However, I could not let my children feel as though the were left out so I would play nicely but with an inward grump, and I would have things done on time....Nadine.

As for the work thing. I learned long ago to keep something decent in my locker 'just in case'. We are not talking 'a night at the opera' but a plain jacket, trousers, shoes and a neutral tie. One never knows....

As for venting.... we all need to do it from time to time.
