What a night. An understatement to be sure.
I have to come on and tell you as it gives me something to do whilst I am waiting for Mick to come back from hospital!!!
What a night we have had!
We went to our friends for a bbq and bonfire. All was going swimmingly. I was stood chatting to some friends when we heard a massive explosion. And I mean massive. It made the house shake. Everything just seemed to happen in slow motion.
One minute I was chatting, then we heard the expolsion, then we looked round and saw the bonfire explode and wood fly everywhere. Then I saw Mick fly through the air.
I remember saying "Mick has just flown through the air". Then I remember walking across towards him, throwing my glass down and running.
His hair is completely singed, he had burnt his arm and his face and neck were bright red. Fortunately we had a GP (who was pretty useless to be honest), a St John's ambulance person (who had come straight from duty with all her kit) and a district nurse on hand. They bought him in and shoved him in the shower and wrapped his arm in cling film. The nurse and the St Johns ambulance girl (who is only 16) was amazing. The GP was blase!
Someone had called the fire brigade as they had heard the bang across the valley. The fire brigade called an ambulance but he decided he didn't want to go in an ambulance so was driven by a friend and accompanied by the St Ambulance girl to the A&E. I was very torn - I wanted to go with him but both girls have friends for a sleepover. Everyone said that they would take the kids but it's hard with having their friends here and as both girls were upset I didn't want to go overboard (and the fire men, GP, nurse and St Johns Ambulance girl had all said that he would be fine and that it was superficious).
Thank god Mick had cleared all the kids away from the fire before they lit it. One little boy, when asked by his mum where he was when it exploded, pointed and said "I was just there - Mick flew over my head!".
I have just spoken to him (we are home now - I already knew he was okay as the bloke that took him to hospital had rung his partner to say he was fine) and he is fine. Laughing and joking and moaning that he only had one bottle of beer out of the crate he took over to the farm and would I nip over and fetch it back. He has minor burns to his arm and is in shock but other than that is fine.
He has been given a pain killer shot and had his arm wrapped and is just waiting to to be seen by the doctor.
I can't even go there with what could have happened............
