Oh. My. God.

A place to chat with friends, old and new

Oh. My. God.

What a night. An understatement to be sure.

I have to come on and tell you as it gives me something to do whilst I am waiting for Mick to come back from hospital!!!

What a night we have had!

We went to our friends for a bbq and bonfire. All was going swimmingly. I was stood chatting to some friends when we heard a massive explosion. And I mean massive. It made the house shake. Everything just seemed to happen in slow motion.

One minute I was chatting, then we heard the expolsion, then we looked round and saw the bonfire explode and wood fly everywhere. Then I saw Mick fly through the air.

I remember saying "Mick has just flown through the air". Then I remember walking across towards him, throwing my glass down and running.

His hair is completely singed, he had burnt his arm and his face and neck were bright red. Fortunately we had a GP (who was pretty useless to be honest), a St John's ambulance person (who had come straight from duty with all her kit) and a district nurse on hand. They bought him in and shoved him in the shower and wrapped his arm in cling film. The nurse and the St Johns ambulance girl (who is only 16) was amazing. The GP was blase!

Someone had called the fire brigade as they had heard the bang across the valley. The fire brigade called an ambulance but he decided he didn't want to go in an ambulance so was driven by a friend and accompanied by the St Ambulance girl to the A&E. I was very torn - I wanted to go with him but both girls have friends for a sleepover. Everyone said that they would take the kids but it's hard with having their friends here and as both girls were upset I didn't want to go overboard (and the fire men, GP, nurse and St Johns Ambulance girl had all said that he would be fine and that it was superficious).

Thank god Mick had cleared all the kids away from the fire before they lit it. One little boy, when asked by his mum where he was when it exploded, pointed and said "I was just there - Mick flew over my head!".

I have just spoken to him (we are home now - I already knew he was okay as the bloke that took him to hospital had rung his partner to say he was fine) and he is fine. Laughing and joking and moaning that he only had one bottle of beer out of the crate he took over to the farm and would I nip over and fetch it back. He has minor burns to his arm and is in shock but other than that is fine.

He has been given a pain killer shot and had his arm wrapped and is just waiting to to be seen by the doctor.

I can't even go there with what could have happened............

Petrol I think. Some bright spark decided to pour a can full over it before lighting. Although I don't think anyone expected it to react like that.

Rachel (the St Johns Ambulance girl) has just sent me a photo of him all chilled out with a towel wrapped around his neck.

Stupid wasn't it.

Yes, he should be. He has been seen by triage and they have given him painkillers and cream for his face (which was just affected by heat rather than burns) and his arm (which has minor burns) and now he is just waiting to see the doctor.

I don't know what time to expect him home - I suppose it depends on how busy they are (bank holiday Sunday...............) and how they prioritise him. But they aren't expecting him to stay in. I'm just about to put a hot water bottle in bed for him. Bless.

It makes you realise how important some things are. I've been really down lately and although I never would have done it, have been thinking about how life might be if it were just me and the girls. But tonight really bought home to me how important Mick is to all of us. :(

Just had a message from Rachel (St Johns Ambulance girl) to say that he is in with the doctor at the moment and she will message me asap to let me know what they said.

I would guess that unless they want to keep him in he should be home within the hour.

Thanks Loz. Life is tough sometimes. To be honest I think an awful lot of my "down-ness" at the moment is due to my contraceptive implant being ready to come out and be renewed!!! Mass rush of hormones!

Have heard from Rachel to say he is with the doctor. She has seen him and gone to have a chat with her colleagues. Rachel thinks it is unlikely that they will keep him in.

Facebook is a wonderful thing at times!

Aww Debih, I realise you've had a few gripes lately but, y'know, you've been together a long time and there are bound to be a few blips along the way.
Hope he's home soon and you can give him a good hug.
