We didn't have a phone until 1952 when we moved into a new house. I forget the number.
I remember once dialling a number that I had seen the GPO engineer use to test the line. Nothing happened until I plonked the handset back on, and then it started ringing and I couldn't stop the damn thing! I had to disconnect the wires in the connecting box and get the engineer back to fix it. I never told him what I had done.
Do you remember... "On the third stroke it will be 8-45 a.m. precisely".
