im back...

Postby pollR78 » 13 Nov 2014, 16:15

phew, I am back home - a little bit sore/uncomfortable and tired but so glad its over.

Hospital was really nice but instead of going to theatre at 430pm when I was supposed to, I was taken down about 640pm! My 5th general anaesthetic and the first time I have been given something to relax me just before the GA went in.........felt like I had drunk a bottle of wine lol  woke up and didn't realise it had been done, no dreams, nothing!

After a while was taken back up to my room and dozed waiting on the fluids finishing as the bag had pain relief in it.........then the nurse got me sorted into my pyjamas and more pain relief.

Have to say I didn't sleep well, didn't help I had a venflon in each hand, and woke hourly in pain, had to buzz at 330 for some painkillers.

Oh and breakfast - I got scrambled eggs, a banana milkshake, and real coffee in a cafetiere, didn't manage much of it but it was nice.

Mum, Dad and Amy came to collect me at 1030 and spent the afternoon at mums while Amy went back to school....home now and pj's on, more pain relief and Amy happy playing.

So should get a letter in a few weeks with the results which will hopefully just say the lesion/growth was nothing bad.

Thank you for your thoughts and messages on facebook from those who 'know' me there too.

It was very strange being on the patient side and not the nurse side!

thanks Gal xx

Nurse told me I would need at least a week off so told work I will be back next Thursday, as long as I am feeling better and well enough - if not I will get a sick line as I can self-certify for 7 days. Not rushing back until I am fit as they say they will give me office days but I know this won't happen and I would be out in schools vaccinating.

Glad you're back home and definitely take it easy over the next few days and don't rush back to work, esp if you know they won't give you office jobs.

yeah I am going to take it very easy, apart from Amy duties I am not doing anything!

Infact, I am having a bowl of ice-cream now, purely medicinal ;) and it is going down a treat, no pain when i swallow :)

My throat was probably even more sore as they said it was really difficult to intubate me (put breathing tube down) - thankfully I had warned them of this as when I last had surgery 4 yrs ago, they grazed my throat quite far down, my mouth won't open very much and my throat is very narrow/small compared to a lot of people - bizarre!
