Goat meat

Is it fatty? Lean? Only asking, as I was really tempted to try the goat cutlets at the Capri last night.

The man behind me had them though, and they smelt gorgeous :lol: :lol: almost asked him for a taste, but got told off for thinking of it :lol: :lol: :lol:

Similar to mutton I think, only eaten it once in a curry :)

:lol: :lol: The curry was great, my BIL's dad made it, it's a speciality from Jamaica where he came from 8-) :D

I would have asked for the recipe but was worried it would say "First, catch your goat................." :o :P :lol: :lol: ;)

My ex-husband was Guyanese, so we ate a lot of "odd" things, but don't remember goat. Probably didn't tell me ;) :lol: :lol:

When in Cyprus we used to get goat's meat as part of a mezze, from what I can remember we all thought of it as mutton.

I honestly think it is very similar indeed to mutton - treat it as such in cooking and I don't think you'd go far wrong ;)

Iv'e never had goat meat, but judging from the following information I picked up on the web, it sounds great.

Approximately 75 percent of the world’s population eats goat meat. With America’s rising population of ethnic groups, demand for goat meat has risen sharply. American producers are struggling to keep up with the growing demand for a product that was virtually unheard of 15 years ago. In addition to the ethnic population that regularly consumes goat meat (also known as cabrito or chevon), many Americans are discovering the benefits of eating goat meat.

One breed of goat raised specifically for meat is the Boer goat. This goat kid is approximately 2 months old, and typifies excellent conformation and meat placement. He went on to be a Grand Champion!

It has a good flavor and is very healthy. It is low in fat, cholesterol, calories, and saturated fat. In fact, goat meat is over 50% lower in fat than our American beef and is about 40% lower in saturated fat than chicken, even chicken cooked with the skin off!

We didn't actually try it last time we went to the Capri - our friend was paying and it's not that cheap - so maybe next time.

Wonder if our butcher will have any :D
