A bomb went off

Postby kathy22 » 15 Jan 2013, 14:12

Well, on Sunday after a lovely lunch with family and friends, Some of the friends could not get home as the road leading the their houses was blocked off by Police, Paramedics, and the Bomb Disposal Squad. Seems a young man was in the process of creating a pipe bomb (whatever that is) and it exploded. He has a severly injured hand and wrist and from the reports it seems he is a bit of a rogue. Still wondering what he would use this for, he is white and british, oh and the house is in quite an upmarket part of bolton too. Seems nowhere is safe these days.

Kathy

Sadly, even white British people set bombs off, kathy - if you think about it, the IRA bombers in the 1970s were white, from Northern Ireland and therefore British even though they didn't want to be :? Some explosive devices were found here in Dublin yesterday, half assembled pipe bombs left in an unused open car park.

For your information.....

A pipe bomb is an improvised explosive device, a tightly sealed section of pipe filled with an explosive material. The containment provided by the pipe means that simple low explosives can be used to produce a relatively large explosion, and the fragmentation of the pipe itself creates potentially lethal shrapnel.
Premature detonation is a hazard of attempting to construct any homemade bomb, and the materials and methods used with pipe bombs make unintentional detonation incidents common, usually resulting in serious injury or death to the assembler.
In many countries the manufacture or possession of a pipe bomb is a serious crime, regardless of its intended use.

Now you know.

Well although he is in hospital he has been arrested. Hope to find out more as to what he was using it for. But agree it serves him right.

Blimey! I hope the two incidents aren't related.
Shame he didn't do the job properly and finish himself off, we would be rid of one less terriost. No one assembles a pipe bomb to use as a garden ornament, therefore he was intending to use it somewhere against some poor innocent person or people.

Still the fact that he is still alive, they may be able to gleam more information from him. Anyway he'll be out in a few years... Makes you feel safe now doesn't it....

We cannot legislate against stupidity, and there will always be nutters interested in explosions and things. Goodness know what he intended to do with it.

At least he is in custody, so hopefully the police will find out.
