Good for him. And a rare man of principle to call an immediate by-election.

Coming on top of today's figures that immigration is now totally out of control, I really, really hope this is the beginning of the breakthrough that UKIP needs to make.

I am surprised it has taken so long for someone to do this, and I wonder if it will tip others to do similar?

The by-election will cause a few sleepless nights in No 10 and good on him for taking that route rather than sitting out his time till the end of the government's term, as many others have done.

Great, UKIP will get my vote. Best news of the day...
Regarding immigration, hospitals are in chaos, More nurses are being brought to UK understanding English is of secondary importance many of immigrant nurses where have a poor command of the English language now, and it is thought the new mass recruitment will present a danger to patients and create a big problem. However there are those here who are excellent like the West Indian staff nurse in our cottage hospital,

He has followed his conscience and resigned. It can only be good for UKIP. I hope more will follow his example. The EU, political correctness and the European Court of Human Rights are the downfall of this country.

I could not agree more . And it is going to get worse my friend. We indigenous have completely lost our identity we "have no say" we have become second class citizens in our own country...I will "never" vote for the three main parties again UKIP will get my vote regardless of how they perform, that remains to be seen.
We are on the brink of war with Russia, unprepared needless to say with little defence our country in chaos with the enemy within..We have terrorists blatantly shouting and broadcasting that they will create bloodshed murder here and take over this country,
We have probably thousands of so called British going to fight in the name of Allah killing Christians and innocent children and babies, returning here proud of their horrendous actions.
The English have given up feebly when confronted by threats, Human Rights protect these terrorists as do the governments.
A fine example of that when we see Abu Hamza's family are living in a luxury property valued at well over a million, on benefits "Paid for by us infidel's."

Kate - I felt like weeping when I read your post.

The reason is that I think every word of it is correct.

Why, oh why, do not more people see things the way we do?

This is very interesting on several levels.

Firstly standing down and then standing for re-election draws a clear line In the sand. It forces the Tories to try and fight a seat against a successful standing candidate with a new unknown and will expose the level of support for UKIP.

However it is much more than that. There are 100 strongly Euroskeptic tory MPs. If the UKIP win this seat, then these backbenchers are primed. All they need to do, to change Tory policy on coalition with UKIP, is to tell Cameron they will do the same in sufficient numbers to bring down the government and force a general election.

If they are astute enough, they will realise that they have more power threatening than if they actually carry out the act. Cameron simply cannot afford to have his government brought down now. There is too much happening, the budget changes he plans to put in place directly before the election will have too much of an impact on the election itself.

For the first time in my lifetime, back benchers have real and true power over a government to radically change policy. This is something UKIP has gifted UK politics and I, for one, am all in favour of it.

Also I believe that if Cameron were to do this, before the Scottish referendum, he would bring 10% of the Scottish vote to the No campaign. Effectively cutting Salmond off at the knees.

Where are the Disraeli's of our time???

I am not sure that the hundred or so Eurosceptic Tory MPS have the cojones to bring the government down by resigning en masse; and there wasn't anything in the last Queen's speech to give them an excuse via the legislature.

I suppose that what they could do is stand again as Tories then force whoever is at the helm at that time to get into bed with UKIP.

They can't do that WM. The tory leadership would block it.

The only thing they could do, with good grace is what has been done. This, in enough numbers, would bring the government down by loss of majority. The threat of that should be enough to force precipitate action.

Time will tell.
