Like others have said, you are going to have to spell it out bluntly or else this will be the pattern for the rest of the stay. You are not making it plain enough to them obviously.

I don't actually m d them appearing on the beach as long as they don't expect me to make conversation!

I want to read my book.

I am Mrs Mild Mannered, but this would drive me potty. How can you relax if you imagine them popping out from behind every rock on the beach?

Just say the best thing about holidays is the time you have to read your book and stick your nose back in it

You certainly have a problem, Debih.

She probably means well but I suggest that you have a quiet word with her, and explain that you come on
these holidays to get away from everyday living and that you would prefer it if she could please not keep
appearing on the scene as, for you, it defeats the object of having a holiday. You might even suggest that
you meet after the holiday to exchange views on the place. You don't want to spoil your holiday by having
a row, do you?

It's a lovely day today so we will hit the beach this afternoon.

I refuse to go to another beach - this one is perfect and within walking distance. I shall be ignoring any messages from her and will not be mentioning to S what we are doing.

No doubt they will arrive. I can't really do anything about that - it's a public beach! The kids will body board together so they will have a good time. But I refuse to relieve her boredom of sitting on a beach - I will be reading my book and telling her to shut up!
